Cabinet installation

On returning home from abroad I find a Virgin cabinet has been installed in my front garden! Have tried numerous times via their customer service number to get someone at Virgin  to respond, without success. Any suggestions of a phone number or email address of their cable-laying/cabinet installing department??

Re: Cabinet installation

IN your garden? can you post a picture?

They would of needed planning permission for that so it must of been approved by the local council

Re: Cabinet installation

Hi richds,

Thanks for your post and welcome to the forums. It's great having you here Smiley Happy

Apologies to learn you were unaware that a new cabinet was going to be sited near your property.

As mentioned by apcyberax, planning permission would have been needed for us to site the cabinet. Do you own the home or are you renting?

Let us know.

Thanks,

Re: Cabinet installation

Hi Kath, I own the property. Just to clarify - it is on my property, as opposed to 'near' it. It would be helpful if I could see the planning permission. Could you advise how I may be able to view this?

Re: Cabinet installation

most planning permission will be on your local council planning site.

Re: Cabinet installation

Hi Kath, I contacted the council and they confirmed that no planning permission had been sought, and added that planning permission is not required under the General Permitted Development Order of April 2015, which I'm sure you will be happy to hear. That still leaves me with the problem of your cabinet on my front garden. I wonder if you could suggest a way forward. I have written a letter to your head office in Swansea enclosing a photograph of said cabinet along with a copy of the Land Registry plan of my property showing the boundary line, but as of now have recieved no reply.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Re: Cabinet installation

Don't expect VM to rush themselves over this - they seem to have got themselves into a bit of a mess - can't imagine why they did it.

Would usually advise going to citizens advice bureau but with this you would be better going direct to a specialist solicitor.

The main thing is do not let yourself be advised/guided by VM. You are the aggrieved party and need to take charge of what happens.

Good luck

Re: Cabinet installation

Thanks a lot for the advice. I was thinking along the same lines, and have a boundary specialist solicitor lined up if I need him. I just hoped that a polite, friendly approach to them may save me the hassle, but I suspect I'm being a bit naive!

Re: Cabinet installation

Would be good and I'm probably too cynical - it would have been sorted immediately in the good old days with profuse apologies and compensation - in fact it wouldn't have happened in the first place. Unfortunately you are now dealing with Liberty Global.
Clever idea for getting round the hassle of application and wait for planning permission though - just position the box on private property without Way leave consent from the owner.
Be aware that you will get put off/ignored by VM.
It usually starts with offers of contact by Private Message.
Good luck
