Nuisance cold calls and our information

I have not had this line long from Virgin and I keep getting bloody nuisance calls from cold callers and scams etc.

Today alone:

08446 865132

08450 554454

08432 764005

What other information of ours gets sold to these companies? I have nto even told anyone but my parents my number!

Is there a way we can add numbers to a blocking filter? If not WHY NOT!

Please use plain text.

Hi koenigma,

You can register your number with the telephone preference service to stop sales calls.

This can be done by calling:08450700707 or you can register on line at:

www.tpsonline.org.uk

Thanks but one should not have to do it in the first place really. If this does not stop it then what?

Hello koenigma

If this doesn't resolve the issue we can arrange for a new number for you.

We also have a nuisance calls bureau who you can speak to if this fails to have a resolve.

Thanks

Re: Nuisance cold calls and our information

think before asking for a new number...

I requested a number change a few years back (not for nuisance reasons)... and I hoped I would be given a new number, but it looks like I was given someone else's old number...

that would be fine - except that person must have had debt problems as the only unsolicited phone calls I now get are for her offering debt solutions... years later!

however many times you tell them she isn't here, they still continue to ring... i'm in TPS and protective of who has the number - and some are calling from abroad anyway, so TPS isn't relevant...

can't really complain as I don't want my name associated with that number - as then they'll start asking for me and not her... only solution is to add the numbers to the phone book and put them on silent ring...

if only you could login to Virgin and add a number to block - but even if they could do it, they'd probably charge an arm and a leg!

Re: Nuisance cold calls and our information

You topic interests me because of the 0843 276 4005 number.

I have just changed by number in the last 7 days and only my parents have the new number.

Yet 0843 276 4005 rang today and the only reference on google is your post, others are listed as 08432764005.

So what is happening when somebody received a new number?

Does VirginMedia as a company sell the number on to marketing?

Is there an internal employee making money by doing this?

Can the public access a list of new numbers somewhere?

I won't let this one drop, Ofcom, Trading Standards or even the police until I find out whats going on.  I changed my number to get away from these people.

Any personal information including your phone number is shared in relation to the privacy policy which can be found at www.virginmedia.com/legal. However even if your marketing preferences allow Virgin to share information, it is only done so within the Virgin group of companies (as is detailed in the policy)

You can opt out of all Marketing by contacting Virgin Customer Services

Re: Nuisance cold calls and our information

Ben I appreicate your reply but there is a flaw in the system somewhere.

When I changed my number the nice chap on the other end asked why.  He said he doesn't need to know all the details if they are personal but it helps Virgin Media... blah blah blah.

I told him the reason I was changing my number was due to sales, marketing and general unwanted calls.  So in an ideal world your new number would automatically be 'opted' out for such things, if if they are Virgin Media related.

It may only seem trivial but I am really really p****d off at the moment after receiving two calls today from the following numbers.

08432764005

08446867700

Somewhere my new number has leaked out.

I guess having the overseas calls center and the ones in the UK gives countless hundreds of people access to my personal details and phone number.  This is the same with all companies and probably another thing that doesn't help with the increasing levels of fraud.

I recently had two mobiles phones ordered in my name.  My name, address, date of birth and house phone number were used as identity, another reason why I changed my phone number.

I guess there's never going to be a solution...
