disconnects and lag spikes while gaming

Hello I have pretty annoying problem with my Internet connection while gaming. I am getting lag spikes and disconnects. It happens every1-2 days until I restart my router. This helps for another day but then the problems is coming back. I think the problem may be located in my router (it is superhub 1 I guess). Another point is that even if I have lag spikes and disconnects my ping stays the same as always. Only restarting router helps for a short period of time.

Is it possible to fix it somehow or replace my old router if necessary?

Regards,

Re: disconnects and lag spikes while gaming

Does this means I have to change setting in my router?

But as far as I know it will disable wireless functions which will unable my mobile devices to connect to the Internet.

You can get your own router with the super hub in modem mode or you can ask for a SH2 which may cost you.

Okay I don't mind getting new router, but I have 2 more questions.

Will it help fixing my problem ?

How it exactly works? Do i Have to change super hub into modem mode and then connect my own router to the super hub through the Ethernet cable?

It likely will but you can always test in modem mode with a PC to the modem mode port if you test correctly.

Its all mostly covered here.

http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1001&PARTITION_ID=1&secureFl...

All you need is to pick a router to which there are lots and some cables.

Here are a list of cheap ones and you can go even more advanced along with any others that anyone else suggests.

Okay and once I get my own router and plug it into the modem mode port it will be ready to go or does it require extra configuration? I am asking because I have never done it.

Re: disconnects and lag spikes while gaming

Mostly the default settings many simple routers do will just work but even then you have that thing no one looks at called the manual to help you.

It should be as simple as connecting a PC to the modem mode port you may when your in modem mode wait for the ready light to go on then unplug and replug the Ethernet to trigger DHCP to retry faster but you be able to check in the router of your own that it got a IP after the temp IP along with this.
https://web.archive.org/web/20120618023954/http://www.virginmedia.com/myvirginmedia/selfcare/cable-m...

so try modem mode with a PC if you get internet you should have no problem connecting a router in place on that port as long as you allow a 2min power off on of the super hub for the change of device that the link says you can change back to router mode by http://192.168.100.1 as you wait for your own router to change back to modem mode for it.

Re: disconnects and lag spikes while gaming

Okay I have tested modem mode and I connected my PC straight to this port and everything works, but now if I get new router and connect my PC to new router through the Ethernet cable will it help to fix my problem? Will it give me better performance through the wired connection or does it only work for wireless connections.
