Xbox one kicked out of online games after 5mins

My children have had an xbox360 for a number of years with no online issues. My son has recently bought an Xbox one but his online games only last about 5 mins before he is kicked off and is unable to rejoin without resetting the game. His brother (in the other bedroom) can be online at the same time and has no issues on the old 360. We've taken the Xbox one console back to the gaming shop we bought it from and they have tested it online with no issues. Any ideas????

Re: Xbox one kicked out of online games after 5mins

With two consoles on the same LAN they will often be using the same ports, so you need a router that does a good job of managing UPNP in order to ensure the correct traffic goes to the correct console.  Unfortunately the VM hubs do not have a good reputation when it comes to UPNP, even the latest Hub 3.0.  The best solution is usually to get a third party router and put the hub into modem mode.

There is a section of the Xbox forums where they give feedback about routers and mention if they can handle multiple consoles:

Alternatively I believe some people have had success by putting one of their consoles in the DMZ and setting up port forwarding for the other one.

Re: Xbox one kicked out of online games after 5mins

Thanks for that Scott. However, my son has actually managed to resolve the issue by making the following changes:
1. Changing the '2.4Ghz' options from 'good range' to 'good compatability'.
2. In the advanced settings select 2.4Ghz primary settings and create a new network setting it to WEP.
3. Select the newly network on the Xbox.

Maybe this is common knowledge that we should have done right from the start but if we didn't know about it then I'm sure there are others equally unaware so hope this helps.

Regards, Richard

I advise you not to use WEP (for security reasons)

Go back to WPA2(AES) but change the Wireless to Up to 144Mbps (best for wireless range).
