Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

I called up Virgin a few days ago as my internet is pretty much unusable at the moment, at first, my download speed took a hit, now that seems to be marginally better (30mb even though it is meant to be 200mb =( ). However, now my ping is ridiculous. It is over 500 on games rendering them unplayable. Virgin have already put a credit note on my account of around £50 but considering I am paying £80 a month, I am hoping to get this sorted ASAP. It is getting a bit silly now. This is PC gaming, connected via ethernet directly to the Hub 3.

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

Todays bundle of joy. Around 530 ping most of the time, highest I saw it was was just under 700, lowest just over 400.... Excellent -.- .

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

well, today my ping seems to be a little better... only 200 - 300 -.- Means I still can't use my computer for anything other than browsing though. In other news, I have seen 200Mbps for the first time in a long time today, so at least the speed is there.

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

Deja vu! 200 - 400 ping all day again....

I did notice it started on the 17/01/17, iirc this was the date I rang up to complain about the service in the area as I was unable to browse the internet, not great when I need it for work. Can someone look into this for me please?

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

Still nothing lower than 200+ ping, still can't use the internet to game what so ever, still dissatisfied, still paying.

Apparently, £50 credit for multiple problems since September as well as being told will continue to go on until March is acceptable. It is getting to the point where I will just cancel my Virgin services and get cheaper slower internet elsewhere... at least theirs will be stable.

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

HEY GUYS IT'S FIXED!!! Said no one ever.... it is still the same as it was since the 17th Jan, hey, it isn't even 10 days yet, right? It isn't like my internet has been stable for the past 3 months anyway, why would another 10 days matter?

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

If in router mode disable the wireless unplug wired device for about an hour and check you BQM after.

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

yeh, I have tried that already (around 3 hours) and no change =( - Thank you for the idea though! You are trying harder than Virgin for sure!

it is something Virgin have done whilst I was talking to them on the phone. I was on the phone to them at 5.30 on the 17th (I know this as I was using my partners phone and she had to leave at 6pm for work and I was checking the time to make sure I had enough time to stay on the phone).

The phone got put down when she left for work as they were saying there wasn't anything they can do about my poor speeds until the 01/03/17 as they have too many people on the line in my area now and so that is why I get low speeds. (thanks for that btw Virgin -.- ) The first bloke told me to reset my router once we had finished talking. I did so around 6.30pm. at 7pm the crazy pings started and I now have slow internet (although admittedly it is now better than <2mb I was getting before) but my ping is so high that gaming is an impossibility.

I have just about had it with them now in all honesty, I pay the best part of £90 a month, I don't use the phone line as I use my mobile for everything (as does the partner) we hardly use the tivo as we use netflix/amazon and the only reason we have the internet is so I can use it for work/gaming. I can't do that.

Almost £90 a month getting thrown away and Virgin don't give a damn. They credit the account with £50 for what will be 5 months of not being able to use the internet? That would suggest that my internet connection is £10 a month. I might just cancel the other services and pay that from now on and just keep the net Smiley Very Happy

Re: Unusable internet for gaming at the moment / high ping.

Put in modem mode with new BQM and see if that's better
