Unstable connection and ping spikes

Hello, today I've upgraded my internet speed from 100MBs to 200MBs because I had a lot of problems with my internet connection and I hoped to improve it by getting more upload and download speed. No improvements so far as you can see:

The game I am trying to play is absolutely unplayable with my ping issues,  and when you have a 200MBs connection I think you should not have problems playing online games.

This is the IP of the game server that I am trying to play on: 206.127.148.171  so you can test it if you want.I have a lot of friends playing from UK the same game no one has any ping issues, I even took my PC to a friend to test it, was perfect no problems at all , and I know it may seem weird to some people but the main why I am paying for this internet is to play this game.2 engineers from VirginMedia tried to solve the problem one installed a "forward path attenuator"(no improvements), and the second engineer changed a hardware part "Tratec" still no improvements. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.Thanks.

Re: Unstable connection and ping spikes

Ive hit that IP with tracert, WinMTR and smokeping

Everything is showing a maximum of 40Ms ping.

As you have tried your PC at a friends, we can exclude that.

What game is it? How are you connecting to your hub? . Can you post your power levels from your HUB and the network log?

Re: Unstable connection and ping spikes

From the look of your network log and RS counters your data is getting mangled somewhere on the line.

Youll need forum team to pick it up and get a look. In the meantime can you set up a BQM (don't think it will show much but it all helps) and a speed test?

BQM

HERE

Run it for say 24 hrs, and post the result.

Dont forget youll need to make sure your super hub is configured to reply to ICMP echo requests...

Re: Unstable connection and ping spikes

Try running a ping from command line instead of superhub. And throw in a trace route while you are there, may give us some more clues..

I noticed when my girlfriend is using the internet also, it affects it very but very much, but she is not downloading anything and still 200MBs internet cant hold 2 users on it?No way. Played this game from a friend and there are 3 users there on the internet on a 100MBs connection, my ping was 39 maximum. Also every time I traced, nr4, 5, 6 and 7 = Request timed out.

Thanks.

Re: Unstable connection and ping spikes

Hi Zerin,

Sorry to hear of the in game latency problems and thanks for all the additional info, hopefully this will help us pin down where the problem lies.

I've run a few checks on your SuperHub and local network segment and the only apparent issue which might explain the ping spikes is a pick up in traffic on your cable during peak times, though this doesn't appear to have been the issue at around 2am last night when you posted the trace and ping results.

I wonder if for diagnostics purposes it would be an idea to drop the hub into modem mode and test your gaming and ping to see if this helps.

If you have the results from the BQM these might be helpful too.

Speak soon.

Tried modem more before, does  not even 0.1% improvement and even if it did my girlfriend needs wireless, I will try it again just to test it.

Also the first engineer sent to my house installed a "forward  path attenuator" should I remove it or just leave it there? Thanks.

Re: Unstable connection and ping spikes

Hello again, I found another internet provider for myself which I will take in 5 days if my ping issue will not be solved, I am really sorry but I need a stable internet connection, for 2 months I had problems every single day. Thank you!
