Small but very annoying latency issues on Rocket League PS4

Hi guys,

So over the last couple of weeks me and my flatmate are having this issue, our ping stays the same (around 30 usually) but we both get small rubber banding issues.

This happens when we play together or at different times, and it can be fine for hours then do it quite often for 10 minutes. If we are playing together we've noticed we get the issue at the same time.

This only happens on Rocket league that I have noticed but I haven't been playing many other games much lately so I don't know if it's exclusive to that game.

Our download/upload speeds are fine, and we're not downloading anything. We're both on a wired connection albeit my flatmates is through powerline. But his speeds are just as high as mine.

Re: Small but very annoying latency issues on Rocket League PS4

Hi Failhappy,

Thanks for posting and a warm welcome to the community.

Sorry to read that you are experiencing latency issues when playing Rocket league.

From checking your connection, there is a high peak time traffic fault in your area which is causing slow speeds/latency issues. Our networks team are investigating the problem and are improving bandwidth and performance to help with this issue. The reference number is F004702131 and with a review date of 16th November.

Are you both playing Rocket League on the same devices i.e. through 2 PC's or have you got different devices, Xbox, PS4?

Can you post some ping tests and trace routes please for us to check it over?

You mentioned that this can happen at different times of the day, can it be more during peak hours rather than the day time or can it be random?

Hope to hear from you soon

Sam

Re: Small but very annoying latency issues on Rocket League PS4

Thanks for the reply, and sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you.

We both play on our PS4s, to expand on what I mentioned previously I play with a wired connection directly to the router but my flatmate uses a powerline adapter to have a wired connection in his bedroom. We've both been playing Battlefield 1 recently and noticed a fair bit of latency on it. The problem seems to get worse around peek hours but also happens at other times of the day, sometimes it can be only a slight issue like we had experienced on Rocket League but at other times it is making the game unplayable.

It is worse for my flatmate than for me but I'm assuming that's due to the powerline adapters and our flat's wiring being very old.

I will get ping tests and trace routes for you tomorrow after I finish work. My PC is connected through a powerline adapter, I don't know if that will cause an issue for the tests. If it does I could use a long Ethernet cable if I can find it.

Re: Small but very annoying latency issues on Rocket League PS4

I did some trace route and ping tests following a guide on this forum, hope these can help. I've also included a Speedtest.net speed test to show my current speeds, all these tests were carried out through a powerline adaptor if that makes a difference.

Re: Small but very annoying latency issues on Rocket League PS4

Hi Failhappy,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I appreciate the ping tests and trace routes you completed which all look fine with no issues and the speeds are correct.

When this does happen during peak hours it will be due to the high peak time traffic fault in your area.

If it does happen outside these hours, you can try a trace route the EA Servers.

Also as your PS4 is connected directly to the router you can try whilst the Hub is in modem mode to see if there is a difference.

Speak soon

Sam
