Setting up an additional router and putting my SH2 in modem mode

Hi All,

Not too Tech Savvy so any explanation/help would be much appreciated.

I have just purchased a TP-LINK Archer C7 router to connect to my current SH2. On the initial set up of the new router do I need to put my SH2 into modem mode 1st?

I want to use the router for wired gaming and have a few devices that need to connect wirelessly.

Can anyone shed any light on this one please.

Thanks

you need to set the SH into modem mode. Connect the port closet to the coax to the WAN of your new router and all management will be though the new router

Spot on,

Do I not need to make any adjustments to the settings on the SH2 then at all?

Thanks

Re: Setting up an additional router and putting my SH2 in modem mode

none at all. In modem mode the SH is just a dumb modem. All the settings, Firewall QOS wireless are all on the router you connected to it.

if you need to set it back you can access the SH in modem mode at http://192.168.100.1

Other then switching it back to router mode there are now no settings on the SH

You might like to post here on how you find the Archer in use. People are often asking about better routers and your experience would be very useful.

Re: Setting up an additional router and putting my SH2 in modem mode

its up too you - You do not really need to put your new router into modem mode at all. Depends on how you want you system setup.

for me  - all my devices are connected to the SH2 and my families devices go through an additional router that I have configured with restrictions like QOS and time limits as well as LAN isolation. both routers have DHCP set too.

Either way will work for you.

Re: Setting up an additional router and putting my SH2 in modem mode

Further to me original post.

I put the SH2 into modem mode last night and set up the Archer C7. Started gaming online and was still experiencing lag. As mentioned before I am not tech savvy and am not sure if I have got the right set up for the router to be able to work to its potential & I am not sure if there is anything else that needs to be done on the original SH2. Previous posts mention that when the SH2 is in modem mode no other preferences originally assigned to the hub work and is just a standard modem.

Can anyone help with the config of the router and mention any settings that they feel will help make my gaming experience better.

I have forwarded ports required & set up a static IP address for the PS4.

Just to mention, I did a quick speedtest when I installed the router and wasn't getting what I was getting when the SH2 was acting as a hub? Any ideas.
