Routing issue? as of 4pm today - increased latency to some hosts

Hi,

Since 4pm on Friday 3rd of March I'm seeing increased latency to multiple destinations.

The issue appears to be within VM's network based on the traceroutes. Did somebody break the "no changes on a friday afternoon" rule? D:

Traceroutes with first hop redacted due to forum policy:

Unfortunately virgin have misconfigured 5 routers not to reply, making it harder to diagnose where the fault lies.

same here - utterly useless for gaming since 4pm. Min latency 40ms, dropped packets all over the place

Re: Routing issue? as of 4pm today - increased latency to some hosts

I can concur, after an initial problem with latency which was resolved by switching back from a Superhub 3.0 modem to a Superhub 2ac modem which lasted two weeks, the high latency issue resumed from Monday the 27th of March. My original post: https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Gaming-Support/Battlefield-1-High-Ping-Times/td-p/3320377. Hope we can get some feedback on the issues soon.

Re: Routing issue? as of 4pm today - increased latency to some hosts

Yes. I have a virtual server in London (I'm farther south) which I can usually ping in 20ms or less, now it's upper 40s. It is also revealed in Think Broadband BQM, increased latency and some packet loss too. I've never seen this happen in my year with Virgin. It does not affect the 1st hop, so it's not the modem/router. Likely some weird routing between Virgin's networks and some (but not all) others.

My Broadband Ping - SH2ac-ModemMode

I agree it would be great if we could run full traceroutes / MTRs to help diagnose where things are going bad.

yes same here, Battlefield 4 server pings on both Xbox And PS4 are off the chart which means a whole weekend of no gaming while Virgin media continue to take my money. Thing is this has actually been going on for quite some time now and nothing gets done about it

Re: Routing issue? as of 4pm today - increased latency to some hosts

Whilst I do not know whether the following is the reason why some Virgin Media customers are experiencing high latency, I have contacted Virgin Media's technical team this afternoon and this is what they had to say:

"Due to the upgrade work being carried out in your area, you are experiencing high latency whilst playing games online. It could also cause slow download/upload speeds, buffering on video services and slow browsing. Once the work is completed any issues above, will be resolved."

When asked when the upgrade is due to be concluded the response was the following: "July 2017"

The Virgin Media team also asked me for my mobile number so that they could update me via text messages on the progress of the upgrade.

Whilst there is a variety of reasons why some of the Virgin Media customers are experiencing high latency issues at the moment, the reason above may apply to some of you too.

yep just logged on and BF4 unplayable again, do Virgin media actually read anything here or is it a waste of time posting ?
