Ping too high at peak times

I've been with Virgin/Telewest for well over a decade and generally speed and reliability have always been great.  Now however, i'm getting pings that are well over 200 which makes online gaming impossible.  Could someone please investigate this for me?

Thanks

Re: Ping too high at peak times

So I guess the answer to my question is 'no'?

Re: Ping too high at peak times

What exactly do i have to do to actually some assistance? I pay £100 per month for my Virgin services and as things currently stand I cant play online games in the evening due to ridiculous pings and to be ignored on your official forums is an insult quite frankly.

Re: Ping too high at peak times

Don't expect a response for 2 weeks after your post, they're incredibly slow at responding. Either as a result of incompetence or they're understaffed, both of which are ridiculous excuses for such sloppy responses. I would recommend you set up a broadbrand quality monitor, they seem to like them.

Here is mine for example:

Getting consistently shafted by highly fluctuated ping during "peek" all daylight hours.

Re: Ping too high at peak times

Hi there SirAGFC,

Welcome back to the community. It's nice to have you here.

Sorry to read that you are having issues with high ping during peak hours.

Looking at your connection, the line and hub have come back as fine with no faults reported.

You can create a Broadband Quality Monitor, as Hydrops mentioned, as this will check the performance of the connection. If you do set up the BQM make sure that you go into your router settings > Advanced Settings > Ping > and tick Respond to ICMP echo requests sent to WAN IP.

Can you post some ping test results for us to check please?

Hope to hear form you soon

Sam

Re: Ping too high at peak times

Apologies for the delay in responding, I was away and had a lot trouble getting a Quality Monitor to work.

[MOD EDIT: Inappropriate Image removed (Contains IP address), please review the Forum Guidelines]

As well as the poor pings my download speed are also suffering, dropping to 4mbps on my 150mb line.  This happens every day so I may as well being paying for a 50mb line.  Not happy.

Re: Ping too high at peak times

You have anything running that uses a lot of upstream bandwidth? P2P? Backups to the cloud?
