Ping response times have doubled/tripled over the last week making games unplayable!

So over the last week I've noticed unusual ping response times, Obviously at peak times you expect a higher ping and slower download rates, however this occurs between 9:30pm and 10:30 pm which is outside peak times as far as I know.

I took this record at 10pm

Heres the interesting thing, Download and upload speeds remain normal, I wouldn't tell if I wasn't playing a game and its only been happening the last week which made me thought repair work/upgrade and yet nothing is being done in the area, At this point I've ruled out a hardware failure since it occurs at the exact same time every day since I discovered the issue a week ago.

Factory defaulting the router or switching to Modem mode doesn't help but at 10:30 everything normalises out, my concern is if this problem continues, it could get far worse, and I've seen enough threads already on this forum that I'm faced with an interesting dilemma, move to BT (who are potentially much worse) or sort the issue, so advice welcome.

Re: Ping response times have doubled/tripled over the last week making games unplayable!

Hi Mioav,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear you're getting higher pings.

Thanks for running all those tests so far and for posting the ping and traces that's a huge help already. I've checked your connection and everything looks good from here. The contention in the area is consistently low even at peak time so that's not to blame this time.

It's quite likely that the games you are playing are busier at those times as 9:30 - 10:30 is still well within peak time as far as usage is considered.

Which games in particular are you playing?

Re: Ping response times have doubled/tripled over the last week making games unplayable!

This is not an issue with the games servers though, as you can see pings to your own website are over double the response times, CS:GO has been the most recent game I've been playing and I already know about the server issues so that's a bad example. Rocket League, Warface and The Elder Scrolls Online at the moment.

And its now getting worse, at 8:30pm the issue has started up.

Re: Ping response times have doubled/tripled over the last week making games unplayable!

Mioav there have been issues with CS:GO for a while now with constantly high pings to EU West servers (there is another thread about it in the gaming section).

VM have stated this is out of their control as the issues lies with another ISP on the continent (GTT.net).

You're not alone, brother!

Re: Ping response times have doubled/tripled over the last week making games unplayable!

As I already said, I know about the CS:GO issues, this entire post isn't about that, its about my ping being affected on a global scale between the times of 9:30 and 10:30pm.

Re: Ping response times have doubled/tripled over the last week making games unplayable!

Hi Mioav

Thanks for getting back to us. Everything looks ok when checking over your modem again. The traffic on your network segment is healthy and looks low around the times that you've mentioned.

Can you set up a BQM graph, run it for a day or two and post the results back here. You will need to enable ICMP echo requests within the ping section of the hub GUI.

Speak soon

Set the BQM up and here's what I have so far, be aware it was only created late Sunday so there maybe more results.

Surprised that this issue is occurring earlier than I originally thought.

Hi Mioav

Thanks for getting back to us and posting your BQM graph. Can you post the hub network log for us to have a look at (192.168.0.1, don't log in, router status in top right corner)

Thanks

Re: Ping response times have doubled/tripled over the last week making games unplayable!

I would love to post a log, but according to the router, there is no log?

After doing some tests myself I think whatever was causing it has "sorted itself out"
