Ping - Major spikes

Over the past month i haven't been able to play a normal game without my ping being reasonably high.

There's a game called League of Legends and i used to get stable 28 ping, now i'd be lucky to get below 50. My pings never stable no more, it's bobbing from 50 - 150, like every second it would be a different number. Same for Counter-Strike, used to get a stable 50-60 ping, now it's between 80 -150.

At first i thought it was my wireless dongle, since i bought a new one due to old PCI card not fitting motherboard of new PC. But my laptop's ping is even worse.

I'm currently using 5G and it's the same with 2G. Anyone may be of assistance?

Thanks,

Jordan

Re: Ping - Major spikes

Sorry for double post.

Here is an example of my ping:

This is to show my ping and how it keeps changing, today it's been ok however it still isn't viable as other players see me teleport everywhere. Yet the weird thing is when i'm playing i don't experience the lagg, i just know i'm lagging. That may be due to CoD4, if i were to go on counterstrike it's a different story, if i change weapon my player would be spazzing out and look like hes changing weapon 4 times, i'd be dashing everywhere.

I don't play competitive games much so it doesn't affect me major, probably why i don't is due to the ping.

Speedtest using 5G: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5197193803

Last time i check i was on a 100mb package unless it's changed recently. It may be that you're working in our area as i've heard something i happening in april to with our internet. Just want to make sure were at right power levels etc. our end!

Re: Ping - Major spikes

Hi Pphelix,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear you're getting lag in games. The first thing I would suggest is to try a wired connection. Wireless adds a whole load of interference to gaming that will affect stability so it's always best to be hardwired where possible.

I've checked your connection from here and can see no issues, your power levels, SNR and area contention are all healthy.

There are some known issues with EU servers that appear to mainly affect CS:GO. Could you run some traces to the servers you play on for us to take a look at? Over wired preferably.

Re: Ping - Major spikes

Sorry for the late response, i will test with wired connection. I can confirm i test wired connection beforehand and the ping was producing the same results, today has been the worst so far, i'm currently peaking 400ms in Counterstrike and averaging 180¬ But i'll get back to your with wired traceroutes and will also try modem mode.

____________________________________________________________________________________

All data above is through Modem mode - I have tested both League and legends and the Call of duty 4 server i play on, produced the same results (100-200) ping. Interestingly, come 4-7am my ping is fine, it jitters constantly but it doesn't go as high as +10ms. E.g Competitive mode on CS:GO i'm meant to be getting 55-60ms, my ms is usually 65-70. I don't understand this ping business, a month ago it was fine, on league of legends i would get 30 stable, no problems, no new devices, was all fine. Now as someone who games it's becoming stupidly annoying, other members don't notice is too much due to casual surfing and i'm sure we have a reasonal package for streaming, downloading etc. Maybe is confliction with others in the street as we have had an issue like that before, or our power levels.

Re: Ping - Major spikes

Hi Pphelix,

Thanks for the additional info the ping times certainly don't look good, could you perform the same to the game servers used?

It would be helpful if you could also set up a Think Broadband Quality Monitor so we can cross check any latency with their results.

Many Thanks
