PS4 Speed

Hi, I'm experiencing slow speeds, this is talking about the tests on a PlayStation 4 console. I'm not so worried about the connection to other appliances. Now the speed issometimes less than half what I am paying for(100mbps). I would like someway to rectify this. Hopefully there is an easy solution. Of anyone can help I would be so grateful.

Thanks

Re: PS4 Speed

The speed tests on PS3 & PS4 are notorious for not reflecting the true speed of your connection.  I have had both consoles for years on a VM connection and they never max it out.   I usually see download speeds of 40-50Mbs on the Sony speed test when my PC says my connection is getting 200Mbs.  It is a Sony issue not a VM one.

Re: PS4 Speed

The PS3 / PS4 and PSVita are slow wifi devices, also the Sony backend is slow.
I never get more than 30Mbits down on wifi, wired only gets 5Mbits more, and I am on the VM200 service.

Says something that Sony PS devices does not support the 5GHz range on wifi, only 2.4GHz.

I think this is sonys ways of giving everyone the same, no matter what internet speed you have.

Running on 200Mb VM service with SH2 AC in Modem Mode, with a ASUS RT-N66U router. With this setup I get Fantastic WIRED and WIRELESS Signals in my home. I dont work for VM. But I work in IT, and I know my tech.
My advice is at your own risk.

Re: PS4 Speed

I have a pc but have just ordered myself an xbox one, speeds on them are fantastic, you always get the max speed you pay for or pretty close.

Re: PS4 Speed

Earlier today I ran some web speed test  to compare against the Sony speed test. As the PS4 browser doesn't support Flash or Java the usual speed test sites like speedtest.net are not an option.  These tests were carried out using a wired connection to a Netgear R7000 router which is connected to a Superhub 2 in modem mode.

This was the result from http://speedof.me which shows a poor download speed of 19.7Mbs but a full upload speed of 12.5Mbs.

The next test I tried was http://openspeedtest.com which showed a much better download speed of 80.4Mbs but the upload part failed.

I then ran the Sony speed test for comparison. It gave a better than normal 63.7Mbs for download and 7.1Mbs for upload. 20160124115749.jpg

This was the result from my PC, 208Mbs down and 12.34 up:

So even when a connection is working normally and other devices can use the full bandwidth of the connection, the Sony test will not give similar results.

Re: PS4 Speed

Even wired the speeds are bad, however if you use your PC as a Proxy which your PC downloads the files and then sends to the PS3/4, you would be surprised how quicker it is.

Here is a quick link, I would make sure you know what you are doing before doing this, and read instructions well.
