PS4 Lag

Hi there,

I keep getting lag on every game that I am playing... however when I am testing my internet on my PS4, I am getting good speeds..  20+  download, 3 meg upload (on a 50mg conn)

It just seems to lag everytime i want to play and it's weird. SuperHub seems to also kick me off the network at random times on other devices so maybe I need a new hub?

Can a Virgin employee test this out for me? Thanks.

Re: PS4 Lag

Heads up, "bumping" will actually make it take longer for a member of staff to get to your thread.

Re: PS4 Lag

I'm having same issues myself. Have you tested your ping? What area are you in? Just wanting to see if we are having the same issue and to confirm it's VM at fault.

Re: PS4 Lag

I'm in Birmingham, UK.

My ping on my phone says 12mg and speeds of like 47mg.

It's just online gaming. It's so weird

Re: PS4 Lag

Hey Adam,

when referring to ping they're talking about how long it takes for the data to communicate across the network and is normally measured in milliseconds.

So for example my ping to bbc.co.uk looks like this when executed from a command prompt on windows.

ping bbc.co.uk

Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.244.23] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.58.244.23: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=52
Reply from 212.58.244.23: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=52
Reply from 212.58.244.23: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=52
Reply from 212.58.244.23: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=52

Ping statistics for 212.58.244.23:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 17ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 18ms

I've put in bold what I'm referring to.

There is more to it than this but for simplicity this is what someone is referring to when they're talking about ping, not the bandwidth of your connection (measured in megabits per second for the most part when looking at Virgin Media's connections).

Ping will often be called latency as well.

Are you connecting your PS4 via WiFi? This often suffers from disconnects and so on, especially if you're directly connected to the SuperHub as the WiFi is pretty shocking (in my opinion).

Re: PS4 Lag

Ah right. I just tried the same, said my average ping was 20ms.

Yup, I do connect via WiFi but other than the last week or so, lag has never been a problem.

Re: PS4 Lag

Maybe search the forums first.

LAG happens with the SH in router mode, put the SH in modem mode and get your own router.
I game on PS4 and have no LAG even if I use wireless.

Running on 200Mb VM service with SH2 AC in Modem Mode, with a ASUS RT-N66U router. With this setup I get Fantastic WIRED and WIRELESS Signals in my home. I dont work for VM. But I work in IT, and I know my tech.
My advice is at your own risk.
