[This hasn't been posted in the Blizzard thread as it's a new problem occurring from 18/4/17]
Since the 18th, Virgin Media players on Overwatch have been randomly disconnecting from competitive matches. Players playing in groups have noted that all players with Virgin Media are booted from the game at the same time, while other players are unaffected. E.g.:
As you can see, Blizzard customer services on both Twitter and their own website are insistent that the problem is on Virgin Media's end. Here's the text from a support ticket:
"Even though the timing suggests that this is an issue with the recent patch, the fact that patch 2.10 has released is actually coincidental - this is actually a problem with Virgin Media's network, and we have received a lot of reports from other customers of this ISP reporting as such.
So, as much as we would like to be able to provide help, I'm afraid this is something your ISP has to solve for you. Make sure to contact them as soon as possible."
Assistance would be appreciated because the game is unplayable with this issue in place - we risk being banned for disconnecting during competitive games.
How long have those problems been happening though? My friend and I have been playing Overwatch nearly every day for a year now, we've had our share of connection issues but we've never been disconnected at the same time until two nights ago. Now we've had something like 4 in our last 7 games. All the sources quoted the OP are from the last 24 hours too.
It seems that they've changed something in the last few days.
I have made a post about this too, both here and on the Blizzard forums. I've also tweeted both blizzard and VM but it seems to be lots of finger pointing from both. It started Saturday evening for me and Monday night was the last I played as I simply have no desire to lose anymore SR over this issue. The game is unplayable and VM customers are all on their way to a season ban if this isn't sorted out.
On my Saturday night disconnect both I and my partner were kicked at the same time. We were in different matches (as we have quite different ranks). Mine was very close to the end and by the time I got back it was over so I had a 10 minute ban and -50SR. He got kicked but managed to get back in. when he did he discovered someone on his team had also had a DC and someone on the other team. Both were with VM. I took to twitter and everyone I spoke to on there with DCs also were with VM. Yet their support think it's blizzard's issue. -_-
Giving it a few more days but if nothing is done we're going to look at switching ISPs. We are out of contract now and the stable internet has been the only reason we've stayed so long.
Hello, same here, I want to be constructive as it is important for me that this is fixed.
My brother and I (both on virgin) live opposite ends of london play overwatch together. Twice this week we have experienced a terrible lag followed by an immediate disconnect on PS4. The first time we were the only people in the game to disconnect but we both got back in. Then at around 12:20am today (last night) we were disconnected again, this time when we got back in, I noticed someone from the other team had also lost connection. I run to reddit and notice other virgin customers complaining of disconnects. This is Virgin doing this. Please find the cause and address it as soon as possible. If everyone could please post the exact times of disconnects in this thread it might help them diagnose quicker. I have over 200hr on overwatch, this is definitely a new problem.
Yeah, the problems started up again two nights ago. Playing with the same friend (different city, both with Virgin) and the times are the same as the post above. Both kicked off at ~12:10am (night of 20th/morning of 21st), and again last night at ~2:07am. We were both banned for 30 minutes the second time and we basically can't afford to play now, we're banned for the rest of the season - until September - if this happens a few more times.
I'm so many hundreds of hours deep into the game that I'd much sooner quit Virgin instead, the service was already falling off a cliff but this is the icing on the cake.
I've been having no connection problems with Overwatch today or at all, since I started playing it in January of this year. I have the PS4 version and PC version, but primarily I play the PS4 version due to how time consuming it is to manage multiple accounts+life stuff.
