Newcastle area lag

Good afternoon.

I have been having severe issues with unstable ping in gaming and packet loss since yesterday at every time of the day.

Latency in game goes constantly between 35-50 (my usual) and 160-300 in a matter of seconds.

The issue has been constant since yesterday and doesn't depend on the time of the day.

Here is a traceroute to google i just did:

3 13 ms 14 ms 17 ms gate-core-2b-xe-521-0.network.virginmedia.net [82.2.240.93]

9 26 ms 27 ms 27 ms lhr35s04-in-f46.1e100.net [216.58.201.46]

Is anyone able to help me understanding what is happening and if there is anything I/VM can do to solve this as fast as possible?

Thanks

Re: Newcastle area lag

How are you connecting to the service? Looks like WiFi going by the ping to the hub.

Might want to reboot the hub and maybe try cabled.

If already cabled to router a different cable might be worth trying.

Re: Newcastle area lag

thanks for the advice.

Yes, I am on wifi but my room is not easy to connect to the hub so i will have to stick with it.

Anyway i am used to the occasional lag spike due to the wifi and i have been here for more than one here now so i have a good idea of what to expect from my connection in standard conditions.

I don't see a reason to think the issue could be wifi related as it stands.

2 more tracert done just after rebooting the hub.

Re: Newcastle area lag

Hi rapax24,

Sorry about your recent issues with the increased ping times. I have tested your connection and can see some network errors but those were dated for the 23rd and have not repeated since then.

I am not able to view your Hub data as it currently appears to be offline. If you are still having problems though would you please keep your Hub powered on so we can run our diagnostics? Assuming, that is, that it''s not offline due to some malady!

Thanks Smiley Happy

Re: Newcastle area lag

Since i wrote the post the situation has improved a lot.
I still have occasional moments where the ping rises that I cannot track down to a particular cause but.it is happening mostly at night when there is probably a higher load on the network.
I only notice it in game now and much less frequently, while previously i had issues even loading web pages.

The hub is always on. You shouldn't have any issue running diagnostics.

I appreciate the help, many thanks

Re: Newcastle area lag

Hi rapax24,

Sorry for not seeing your reply sooner. However, my tests show your Hub is still offline Smiley Sad

I wonder if my testing is just poorly timed or perhaps I'm not testing the right Hub (could happen if you'd posted from other than your home connection).

Would you please send me a PM (hover cursor over my picture and select Send Message) with your house number and postcode so I can double-check?

Thanks,

Hi Jen, i sent you the PM as requested.

Hope you can help me, at least understanding what it's wrong.

Thanks

Re: Newcastle area lag

Hi rapax24,

Thanks for getting back to me. I am testing the Hub for the correct address, yet our systems still advises that your Hub is currently offline!

This time though I accessed the network and your Hub is indeed online and has been for over 1 1/2 days. This allowed me to check for any network issues but there are none.

What I'm not able to see is your Hub data relating to power levels and timeouts and I'd like to arrange for an engineer to take a look at your connection. Whilst it's likely that the 'offline' status of your Hub is an issue our side, I've not had this problem with anyone else recently and I'd be happier if an engineer checked things out. Please reply to my PM and I'll schedule an appointment for you.

Thanks Smiley Happy
