Mainly gaming issue

So i upgraded from a SH1 to SH2 to get the 200mb connection as im on big kahuna package. The SH1 does not support 200mb. So i got this on the 29th Dec and have had the biggest headaches since then speaking to Virgin Media and getting devices to connect for more then one hour.

First of all, all my devices see the router and connect to it fine no issues. however after about an hour they all lose internet access, Xbox one, Laptop, Phones, tablets and Wii U. Wired connection is fine on PC. however my second Xbox is wired as well, this has the net but very slow 10mb with 80% packet loss.

have spent 2 hours on phone to virgin who blame all my devices and not there router, they wnated to put me through to a specialist teams o i thought ok lets see what they say. they wnated £35 to start to help me. I have come to the conclusion the router is not fit for purpose and reading online im no tthe only one this happens to.

I have done everything i can find on the internet, port forwarding, DMZ, selecting a channel, turning off 5ghz etc still no joy.

So as my contract is up looking at possible moving if they can fix this i dont want to spend money on a independent router if i can help it but might have to make the jump to sky Smiley Sad

Re: Mainly gaming issue

put your superhub in modem mode and buy a third party router.

Re: Mainly gaming issue

Hi ilovemyselfalot,

Welcome to the community Smiley Happy

I'm sorry to hear you're suffering problems since getting the new hub.  I can imagine how frustrating the drops are at the moment, I'll do what I can to help.

First of all, I just want to be sure exactly what's happening when things drop.  Are you noticing any change on the hub's lights when the wireless devices lose connection?  Are they reporting a drop in the wireless network, or does everything appear OK?  I just want to know if there's a loss of wireless connection, or a loss of data whilst the network appears to remain connected.

I'd recommend a factory reset on the hub, unless you've already done that.  It sounds like you've covered a lot of the things you can try to improve the wireless, but take a quick look at this article to see if there's anything you may have missed.

Let me know how you get on.

Kev

Re: Mainly gaming issue

Hi there tried everything in that guide. Its a loss of data, wired still has this bit all wireless devices lose data connection but stay connected.

Re: Mainly gaming issue

Have you tried putting your modem into "modem mode" just for testing purposes to see if the devices loose connection.

We shouldn't have to buy third party stuff but the VM router is basic & sold purely to get you connected (for the novice user) settings are limited. whereas on a third party router everything is open.
