Lag spikes

Past couple of weeks ive been dealing with lag spikes when gaming, mostly noticeable on csgo, which inturn ruins the competitiveness of it. (high pings in most other games too)

Im getting lag spikes every few minutes along with packet loss and choke. My pc has run this game perfectly in the past so its not a hardware issue, its not drivers or anything like that i've gone through the motions of trying to fix this issue myself and conclude that it must be something on the line affecting it.

I would appreciate any assistance or clarification from VM in this matter.

Re: Lag spikes

i get a message saying the default gateway is not available when using windows diagnostics, which usually resets the issue until it happens again.

Re: Lag spikes

I'm not hopeful of any help here, just got to try something.

My contract is up next month so i'm thinking, if i get no help or solution to just cancel the contract and move to sky, I can get it free because family member works for them, we just havnt because we have been satisfied with the broadband until recently but this problem is to annoying and not happy paying for a bad service, atleast if sky is a bit pants im not paying a penny.

Step up virgin and respond atleast so I know someone is paying attention.

Re: Lag spikes

Hi Redcoat88,

Sorry to hear you're getting lag spikes. I've just checked your connection and can see no issues from here. Your power levels, SNR and area contention are all healthy.

There is another thread open about csgo due to the EU west servers having some trouble. I'm not sure if this is the same thing affecting you but it certainly sounds similar.

I'd suggest running some traceroutes to the serves you play on and post them here for us to take a look at.

Re: Lag spikes

Hi Redcoat88,

Please don't bump your own post. We work through threads in the order they are posted and bumping your own can push it down in our lists and means a late response.
Thank you for posting your traces, the first and third look perfectly fine. The 2nd  trace shows the latency rise when it reaches hop 11 (129.250.2.18). I've checked the IP and this is based in America so a latency of 90-100 is expected.
If your wired connection is dropping while wireless remains connected then this points to an issue on the LAN side. Possibly with the ethernet cable or network card.
I'd suggest trying a different cable if you haven't already, also try other ports on the hub and a different device to rule out the network card of your PC.
Let us know how you get on.

Re: Lag spikes

internet connection dropped at 4.40 pm today, and then came back on its own accord a few seconds later. This has been happening for a while now.

I changed the ethernet cables, did not fix, looked at ethernet adapter says its working fine, reinstalled drivers twice no fix, changed Os no help.

Only thing i can think to do is change the ethernet adapter, this will take some time to do. Would you be able to check the time and date of last drop out, i believe this might be the same issues causing my ping to spike on all games i've tested so far.

my housemates are also starting to complaing about their connections too, so its possible its not related to my pc components.
