Horrible Constant Lag, Ping Issues and Slow Speeds!

So I've been with Virgin Media for years, from the very beginning actually; I was with NTL before them. I feel as though every year the service is getting worse, even though the advertised speeds are going up. I am on a 100Mbps connection but what's the point in that when I only get that speed around 3 AM for a few minutes; the rest of the time my speed is around 10-30Mbps if i'm lucky or around 5Mbps at peak times. This is a joke when you consider what I am supposed to be getting!

Now I love to play multiplayer games online with friends but it's just a disaster most of the time. My ping 99% of the time is ridiculously high, I'm always the one lagging in the servers and gaming online has become tiring and literally unplayable. My friends have 'weaker' speeds with other ISP's like TalkTalk or PlusNet and pay MUCH less than I do but never have these ridiculous issues like I do with VM.

I've contacted Virgin Media countless times on the phone explaining my frustration and all I get is 'turn off the SuperHub and switch it back on'; that's it. I have been offered to upgrade to 200Mbps; but what is the point when I can't even get 100Mbps working properly.

Just so you guys know, I use a powerful ASUS RT-AC87U router and have the SuperHub in modem mode. I use CAT-6 cables connected to my Gigabit Ethernet Port in my gaming PC and the same in my PS4. I do not use wireless for gaming. I'm stating this because most of the time VM try to blame the Wi-Fi or the cables I use.

My question to you guys is; should I continue to be patient with VM and hope this get's fixed or finally switch ISP?

Best setup a BQM and post the live graph

You should check none of your devices is downloading or uploading when your getting high ping.

Thanks for the reply..  I am never downloading/uploading anything when gaming and I keep an eye out on my routers Bandwidth Monitor to check if a device within the network is using the Internet etc.

Can anyone help or give me advice? If it helps, my Area Reference is 20.. I am located in Oldham (Greater Manchester)

Does your BQM show high spikes when your idle?

Apologies for the ongoing slow speed problems, it looks like Emma has picked this up with you in the thread slow internet speeds in the OL8 area, with peak time heavy traffic the main issue, ref. F003485623.

If you bump the thread periodically we'll gladly check for any news or developments as the June estimate for upgrade work approaches.
