High latency Virging media 200 gamer

Hi All,

I am having the problem with online playing on my Virgin Media gamer 200 hub, with the high latency of 160 ms on my Xbox one console. I get lags etc while playing GTA V. I also get speed jumps i.e 150-50-20-2 mb! Its so frustrating as I am paying an extra amount of money for the service, not to cause any connection problems lags etc. Any help to solve this problem will be appreciated.
Thanks and happy Xmas to all!

High latency Virging media 200 gamer

Re: High latency Virging media 200 gamer

Don't really know the issue here and since nobody has replied I'll try give you some advice. First part of advice is using an RJ45 cable (Ethernet Cable) makes you get the best speed possible over wireless speed. Secondly try restarting the router or holding down the reset button on the back of the router for 10 seconds or however long it is needed, I forgot exactly how long.

If the issues still remains one final method you could do is go to your browser and typed "http://192.168.0.1/" type in your password to log in, if you haven't changed it yourself and you do not know it you will find the password on the side of your router on the sticker thingy.

Once logged in you should see this:

Now just click the 'Wifi Wireless Network' button on the far left. Somewhere on the page you should see this:

If you change the channel you are currently operating on to something completely different it may help with you situation you just click on the Channel button to the right of the part it says 'Channel' and just change it to another channel and see if it helps. It may be slowing you down because a lot of house holds in your area may be using the same channel you are operating on, it may reset your router once you change the channel and click the 'save settings' button.

I am no expert I just remember reading up on / being told that changing the channel you are operating on may help with speeds. Someone with more experience than me can go ahead and tell me I am wrong if you like because I don't really know if it 100% works just for me it seems to have worked in most cases.

If you still get issues it could be a fault with your router last year or so I had many lag issues also and my router would keep restarting at a  certain time of the day everyday and they said it may be a fault and sent me out a new router and since then in most cases I haven't had any issues with my internet speeds.

Hope I helped in some way. Figured I would reply since nobody has replied and offered you any help yet.

Re: High latency Virging media 200 gamer

Hi Jordan84792,

Thanks for for your effort in trying to help.
Unfortunately I have cat6 cable which is wired into the back of Xbox one and changing channel it would only help for wireless devices? I still get latency of 159ms on my Xbox console at all the times. I am just frustrated by the fact that I have signed up for a "gamer package" which in my case is a joke.

Re: High latency Virging media 200 gamer

Please don't post multiple threads for the same issue. It doesn't get you a staff response any quicker, in fact quite the opposite. I have merged your threads.

The "gamer" tier doesn't provide any better connection for gaming than the normal Vivid 200 tier. The difference is that it has a faster upload speed and no traffic management on uploads at peak times. It would probably be better described as a "streaming gamer" tier for folk that like to stream to Twitch or You Tube at peak times.

If you go to http://192.168.0.1/ (or http://192.168.100.1/ if you are in modem mode) to get the VM hub GUI. Don't login but instead click on Router Status which is either a button in the top right of the screen or a text link at the bottom of the screen depending on which hub you have. Click on the Downstream, Upstream and Network Log sections and copy & paste the figures from those screens and post them here, don't worry about the formatting or you can post screenshots if that is easier. Be careful to edit out or obscure any reference to your WAN IP in the log to protect your privacy.

The community can have a look for you and see if anything in the figures looks wrong and advise accordingly. Or you can wait for the VM staff to pick up this thread (can take 7-10 days) and run checks on your line.

Re: High latency Virging media 200 gamer

Have you opened up the DMZ for your Xbox IP?

What does your NAT type say? There have been several posts over the passed 2 weeks or so where people are experiencing heavy lag/disconnections/unavailable NAT types issues that have yet to be responded to/resolved.
