Getting Ping Spikes In Games - Area 22

For about almost a Week or so now I'v been getting major Ping spikes in games for around to 30ms mark up too at it's worst for most games over a 100ms in an instance like it will go from 30ms to anywhere from around 50ms to 100ms then back to around 30-20ms all in one second causing massive lag. In games where I can measure it considerable packet loss also is present. These are all for the most part PC games and are connected to servers in Europe.

I have done various things to determine if this is a hardware related problem with my PC and I can only conclude after various changes I have made that is it not especially when other devices are also experiencing the same sorts of issues through tests I have done. I have run Ping tests to Google with in CMD and found their to be massive spikes in Ping even maybe 30 seconds or so and the result while not as worse on my Laptop also shows similarities here is an example from a test I have just run recently for a couple of minuets. Please Note this is through wireless but I have done everything that I can to eliminate it as a factor, I am almost sure it is to do with my connection. Any other tests I can run to help pint me in the direction of them. Thanks

Re: Getting Ping Spikes In Games - Area 22

Hi CalJHarris

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear of the slow speeds and ping spikes that you are experiencing. Everything looks good when running some checks on your hub. Peak time traffic climbs but isn't breaching any thresholds.

Do you still experience these issues playing online over a wired connection?

It may be a good idea to set up a Thinkbroadband  BQM graph to monitor your connection. You will need to make sure the hub is set to reply to ICMP echo requests. You can set this in the ping section in advanced settings of the hub GUI.

Speak soon

Re: Getting Ping Spikes In Games - Area 22

Thanks for the advice. I will look it to trying out cable and will set up a Thinkbroadband account. Might also try one of my older Wireless adapters to see if it's this one which is causing the problem despite using any driver new and old for this one under the sun.

Will post back when I have something.

Thanks

Re: Getting Ping Spikes In Games - Area 22

Hello I have tested cable on my Laptop as unfortunately can't really move my desktop around which is why I'm using Wifi. Pings seem to be ok via cable. Games on my PS4 seem to be fine, while it did take allot longer to get on a cause my connection to crash out. I have tried everything on my Desktop the old Wifi adaptor made no difference and neither did installing Windows 8.1 (im running 10) on another partition work any different than 10 did with the same and older win8.1 drivers. Yet other wireless devices are seemly not as badly affected. I should say I am using my own Wireless Router as I had allot of trouble with bad Super Hub connections and low speeds which I had to set to get it to work. I router is a Netgear WNR2200 and has worked flawlessly for the last year or two.

I'v exhausted everything on the Wifi end to see if their is a fix so I am completely uncertain what It could be as drivers, OS have made no difference. Even my Laptop on Wifi while Pinging suffers the same spikes just not at higher ms. I set up the thinkbroadband account and it's been monitoring since late last night below is graph. Hope this can help give you a clear picture, I set the super hub to respond to echo requests then put it back into modem mode, the Netgear is also set to respond to Ping requests so I am certain more or less this is the Netgear Rout or responding the ping.

Re: Getting Ping Spikes In Games - Area 22

Well right now I am in modem mode for my Netgear Router, it's strange because everything has work fine up-until recently and nothing has changed about any part of my configuration for any device. I tried everything on the hardware end and changed multiple Routor settings on my Netgear with no luck what-so-ever. I personaly think it's something to do with the line.

Re: Getting Ping Spikes In Games - Area 22

Also please note that the massive dropped packets on my BMQ Graph was due to me messing with router settings.

Thanks
