Geographical region help? Poor latency!

Having playing Black Ops 3 for the past few months without a problem since having upgraded my internet speeds to 200mbps, I have recently suffered terrible Lag, the Game itself is running. Up to 4000kbps bandwidth but also not giving me a stable Ping!
It ranges from approximately 34ms to 216ms constantly which renders online play impossible! I have been over with a fine tooth comb, the forums for activision/treyarch and they both refer back to that Latency is mainly something that the ISP deal with, having checked my settings it is showing that my geographical region is set to Hanham, England.

I don't know if it is possible for me to change the location myself but I have looked everywhere to do so, but I have been advised that the geographical region can affect the Ping!

Re: Geographical region help? Poor latency!

Hi StuuSafeex,

Thanks for the post, Sorry to hear to about these latency problems you've been having, apologies for any bother.

I don't think the fact that your IP address shows from being in a different location is likely to be the problem here, it may be helpful if you could post some trace route's here for us to have a look at the routing.

Your connection looks great from this end when tested, no errors or time outs and all the power levels are within range on both the upstream and downstream also.

Do these high latency issues occur even when connected via ethernet cable with the Hub in modem mode?

You could also try a factory reset of the Hub and test again to see if that makes a difference to performance also.

I look forward to your reply,

Thanks,

Adam.

Re: Geographical region help? Poor latency!

Not being the most tech savvy person around but I shall try to get some trace routes done later on, what ip's would I need to run it to?

& the high latency is all the while, whether I'm connected wirelessly or hard wired, even in modem mode.

The only thing I can do to even make it slightly more bearable is to port forward but as I don't know how to set certain things I.e. Xbox to a static ip it becomes a ball ache to constantly access the advanced settings and change it all,

Thanks for the reply?

Speak soon,

Stuart.

Re: Geographical region help? Poor latency!

Hi StuuSafeex,

Thanks for posting the traceroutes, I'm sorry to hear this issue is ongoing despite you using wired connections.

Could you redo some of those traceroutes in modem mode please?  I'm a little concerned that the ping is climbing quite early on in the traces, some of the times on hop 1 are slightly concerning.  If you could post those in modem mode as well for comparison, it should give us a better idea for what's currently happening with your connection.

I'd also suggest setting up a Broadband Quality Monitor over a period of 24-48 hours, this should keep track of any latency you're suffering and help give us a 24 hour view of the problems.

Pop those results up here when you get chance and we'll look into things further.
