Disconnect when playing MMOs

Hi.  Having trouble staying connected to a few MMOs I play.

I ran a test, this was the result:

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.14393]
(c) 2016 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\System32>tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com

Tracing route to patchserver.crypticstudios.com [208.95.185.41]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Trace complete.

C:\WINDOWS\System32>

As you can see, it times out at the connection to Virgin Media.  There is nothing else wrong with my connection, it's actually quite speedy this morning.

Without wanting to contradict you, no it doesn't. If it was timing out at that piece of VM's infrastructure the traceroute wouldn't complete. What your seeing is something which is discarding ICMP requests

The only issue on there lies with Cogentco, the latency is ramping at their infrastructure. But its still being transmitted on to Cryptic.

The value after the ip address is packet loss in percentage the final ip is cryptic's star trek online server. There is however some packet loss with VM's network before it goes trans Atlantic which I think they need to investigate. As others have stated, cogentco.com seems to be a continual issue for anyone connecting to west coast USA and has been for years. The problem with US companies, as we have seen recently, if you have the money, you don't give a crap about the rest of the world. Personally, I can see things getting worse when connecting to the states and not better which is a shame because there are a lot of damn good online games hosted there.

Re: Disconnect when playing MMOs

Hi alanwilson3,

I am sorry for your disconnections and thank you for posting your traceroute and MTR to aid our diagnosis.

I don't think though that the issue is unique to your MMO's. An SNR outage has been flagged for your area, fault ref: F005083290, and this will cause disconnections and reduced speeds.
A network technician was in attendance this morning, has located the source of the noise ingress and applied the necessary fix. Your connection should have stabilised as a result so please post an update and we'll check the progress of the fault ticket an d let you know when it's closed (it's been left open at the moment for monitoring).

Smiley Happy
