If you are getting ping spikes and dropouts then it's worth looking at your connection. How are you connecting Wired or wireless?
What hub do you have? can you post the power levels.
Go to 192.168.0.1 (don't log in), and click router status. On the Suberhub 1, 2 and 2 ac this is in the top right corner of the login screen. if it's the Hub 3 you'll find a link underneath the password field.
