200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

Hi,

I have been having an issue over the past few weeks with my in-game ping. I am mostly playing CS:GO (among other titles) and while others have a ping of around 30-80, I have a ping of 200-500 which will bounce up and down randomly. I am using the SuperHub 2ac with a wired connection and am currently on the 100mb package. I do not understand why my ping is so high and can only put it down to Virgin's network itself which is out of my control. Could I have my connection looked at if possible?

Thank you.

Re: 200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

Hi Jack_Edgar,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear you're having trouble with your latency to CS:Go. There have been some on and off issues with EU servers that cause exactly the issues you describe over the last few months. They appear to come and go and unfortunately are out of our control. Could you run a traceroute to the games servers you play on and post it here for us to take a look?

I've also just checked your connection from here and can see there is a contention fault in your area under ticket F003573910. This will cause poor speeds and fluctuating latency at peak times such as evenings and weekends and is due for review 31/08/16.

Re: 200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

Hi, here are the results from a server I joined today. I have also included a ping test and an in-game screenshot (My username is TheDroneGamer) to demonstrate the ping fluctuations. Also, why is the contention fault due for review just under 5 months away if it is causing issues for people in the area now? Thank you.Ping testsPing testsTracerouteTracerouteIn-game screenshotIn-game screenshot

Run ping -t 146.66.152.219 in one CMD window and tracert 146.66.152.219 in another CMD windows at the same time then when the tracert is done stop the ping -t by control + C and post all that.

Your ping will buffer if any device does a burst download or upload due to no QoS for your rate limit.

Re: 200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

Hi, I am still experiencing this issue. I have attached images of the traceroute as well as a ping test/in-game screenshot again. The -t/continuous ping has also been included in text form below. Thank you.

Edit: I have also included another continuous ping test. It again showed the same results as the original and it seems my ping is fine for a while, then will sporadically increase for a while and then decrease. This tends to be how it works in-game, with my ping fluctuating up and down and generally being inconsistent. I have attached a screenshot of one of these lag spikes (In which it jumps to around 350 ping and then returns to around 60).2.PNG

Re: 200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

You likely have something downloading or uploading and you really would not know as your gaming which your ping will go high without your own QoS.

The other thing you can do is setup a BQM on VM WAN IP gateway your on (this is not your IP or 192.168.x.x) which if that spikes then the problem is more up route.

Re: 200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

Hi,

Thank you for the response. Would the VM WAN IP be the one from the traceroute (81.97.115.105 or 10.5.144.1) or is there another way to find it?

Re: 200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

It will be something like your WAN IP but not within a subnet your in but if your in a subnet of 255.255.255.0 then its easy you just have the last digit by .1 but if your in a subnet of 255.255.248.0 then its not that simple with just your WAN IP you can PTR lookup for it to show gw in the naming VM gives these IP's so if the least two sets of digit are like .65.222 you can try .65.1 then .64.1. for at PTR lookup or it should show in the super hub if in router mode or your own router or PC if in modem mode.

You would think with all these web sites that do what my WAN IP that their be one that does whats my WAN gateway IP.

Re: 200-500 Ping When Gaming Online

Hi,

I have checked my subnet mask and it is 255.255.255.0, where exactly do I go from there? Not sure what you mean by 'you just have the last digit by .1'.

Thank you.
