170ms latency to xbox live

I have had virgin media now for approx 2 years, I pay £80 for up to 200mb broadband and tv etc, mainly for gaming and my latency has always been at around 160ms, after many conversations with people over the phone nothing has improved. After a lot of upgrades to my set up here at home I am going to have to change my ISP because I'm not willing to spend hundreds of pounds on tv's, games, controllers etc.. for me to have a terrible experience every time I use multi player games, like call of duty for example. By looking at the forums here I can clearly see many people have had this issue and virgin aren't willing to correct the issue,

please reply with any feedback so more people can see this

Re: 170ms latency to xbox live

Hello RhysS

Welcome to our forum, I'm sorry you are having problems with latency, we would like to help.

The first thing I notice is that your hub power levels are out of spec suggesting too much line loss.

VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 0 -8.7 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 1 -9.3 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 2 -9.3 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 3 -8.8 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 4 -8.5 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 5 -8.4 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 6 -8.6 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Downstream 7 -10.3 dBmV
VM SUPER HUB 2AC Upstream 1 52.0 dBmV

I think this is a good place to start and best we get an engineer visit arranged to investigate. I will send you a forum private message (envelope top right) to arrange an appointment.

Thank you, speak soon.

Nicola

Re: 170ms latency to xbox live

please do a speedtest on another device Smiley Happy

The ping your reporting is from the xbox one speedtest? which is right but not hurting your xbox one at all as that test is pinging over-seas data center not a local one.

Re: 170ms latency to xbox live

I'm getting the same problem 170ms ping, digital game downloads no higher then 100Mb. (Have 200Mb package) Now reading into this further it's all down to the Xbox connecting to a Seattle server hence the high ms ping and you need to take into consideration what speeds are the servers to.
So until microsoft pull their thumb out of their a@££ and give us UK servers I'm afraid we are stuck.
