Wireless problem - incorrect IP address?

Basically moved house and there's already wireless in the house.

Bought a wireless adapter and it can pick up the network already in place in the house

Sometimes the adapter connects (for a nano second or two) but won't let me use the internet.

Shows a strong signal as well but still no joy

only thing i've picked up is that my IP address isn't recognised?

the adapter is working but my IP address isn't displayed....

can anyone please help me!?!?!?!

Re: Wireless problem - incorrect IP address?

What is the source of the wireless signal?

If someone else owns the wireless signal they probably have it secured to prevent unautherised access.

Re: Wireless problem - incorrect IP address?

can you supply what adapter your using, and what version of windows your running?

since its possible your machine is trying to use static IP address to check this if you open network and sharing centre, or network connection right click on the wireless connection choose properties double click on internet protocol v4 tcp/ip and make sure both items are on automatic.
