Why is my UPLOAD speed always shockingly bad?

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2882233670.png

Recent speed check ^

My upload always hovers around the 200kb-400kb. I never see anything faster than that. Surely I should be at least 1MB-2MB? I mean it's 2013.

Right now i'm upload a 40MB file to a friend on facebook (split into 2 20MB files as facebook allows a maximum of 25MB). I started it at 12:10 and it's still uploading 3 hours later with no sign of it being finished any time soon. This works out as an upload speed of around <3Kbps unless my math is way off.

I've had experiences with DROPBOX where a 1MB file would still be uploading a DAY later. Infact it is quicker to upload using 3G on my phone than it is using my own broadband connection!!

What could possibly be causing this?

Re: Why is my UPLOAD speed always shockingly bad?

Hi Matonking,

I've looked into your connection and found that you are affected by a SNR outage. Fault F002603149 is due to be closed 07/08/2013. This is an estimate and may be pushed back depending on work being carried out.

Let us know how the connection is after this date and we'll see if there may be something else that the outage was masking.

Re: Why is my UPLOAD speed always shockingly bad?

John_G,

This is something that has persisted for years. The dropbox issue was last year around november time. Has this Fault F002603149 being going on for that long?

So, if I do a speed check next week I should theoretically see my upload speed jump? What should upload speed be?

Re: Why is my UPLOAD speed always shockingly bad?

So, after this magical fix i've gone up a total of 200kb/s

http://www.speedtest.net/result/2890230872.png

So now i'm at 600 instead of 200-400. Again I ask what am I supposed to be receiving at 20mb/s?

The newest one. The superhub or whatever it was called. Had the same speed for years so the new hub didn't change much.

Upload speed now in the 500kbps region.

Should I be getting over 1Mbps when my DL speed is 20Mbps??

Why would I be traffic managed? I've had the same upload speeds for at least 2 years and I very very rarely upload stuff. It's just that when I do it takes forever!

Surely if I was being traffic managed my DL speed would be reduced also, but as you can see it's fairly constant at 20mbps.

Re: Why is my UPLOAD speed always shockingly bad?

And again uploading a 71kb .doc file and it's taking more than 10 minutes.

71kb should be instantaneous. It's a similar story for picture hosting websites/ dropbox and many other places.
