Virgin Wifi Hotspots?

I read with interest that the lucky residents of London are about to get free Virgin Wifi access on the Tube, which is very nice for them I'm sure..... Smiley Indifferent

So my question is, when will the other 99% of the population get it?

Many BT customers get "free" wifi access at hotspots all over the country as an extension of their home broadband deal. Do Virgin have plans for something similar?

I'm sure a deal could be struck with another provider to share access to their hardware. We already utilise the Orange and T Mobile 3G Network on much the same basis.

Re: Virgin Wifi Hotspots?

Tbo we don't use TMobile/Orange in that manner at all

virgin piggyback on TMobile and have contractual access to their service.

Orange and TMobile are now Everthing and Everywhere (or some such name) so we pick up Orange as part of that agreement.

To expect access to BT or O2 hotspotes (for example) is never going to happen.

Re: Virgin Wifi Hotspots?

yes agreed.... Sky Cloud gives wifi hotspots around the country free with package.....

this will be really important, i need this now to avoid Openzone charges (I don't live in London), so come on Virgin get ahead of the curve rather than lag behind so your customers don't switch to Sky...

any information on this from the Virgin team??

Re: Virgin Wifi Hotspots?

You can either

a) Use somebody else's BT Fon login (in my case, my mums who is a BT customer

OR

Get a FON router for £29.95 (less on eBay, not many about) like this one:

https://shop.fon.com/FonShop/shop/ShopController?view=product&product=PRD-023

When you connect it via ethernet (in my case to my Virgin Media hub), and keep it running, you get to use FON access points. This is cheaper than buying £5 day passes if you do that more than 6 times and you are in the money.

You don't need to be with BT to be part of FON, they just want you to believe that.
