Very slow usenet speeds at any time of the day.

Hi,

I have been experiencing very slow usenet speeds since the last 2 weeks..

The max I get is arund 4mb and I am on the 100mb... My area has already been upgraded and I am getting full speeds from other sites (http)...

Has the throttling policy changed recently that usenet is throttled 24 x 7 now?

Re: Very slow usenet speeds at any time of the day.

My current speed is 1.65MB and worse than the 50mb I had before

This must be a joke... When do I use my connection if I am throttled the entire day?

Why bother bragging about 100mb connections when the network can't cope with it?

Re: Very slow usenet speeds at any time of the day.

i'm getting a maximum of 2.5MB/s even at 3 in the morning, 5 in the morning, 7 in the morning, its a joke, they tell us we can download as much as we like after midnight and then throttle it anyway.

why are we paying for 100meg when we cant use it for what we got it for in the first place.

i certainly didnt get it so i could check my emails quicker.

sort it out VM before you dont have any customers left to sort out.

Re: Very slow usenet speeds at any time of the day.

Currently downloading at a fantastic 1.3mb/s.

I barely download anything on Usenet these days but I'm getting utterly fed up that on the odd occasion when I do try and download anything I'm getting ridiculous speeds like that.

I could almost understand the throttling argument if I'd downloaded a load of stuff already.  I could even understand it if throttling meant I got cut to 50% of my connection speed.  But to cut my speed by roughly 80% regardless, just seems utterly absurd.

Re: Very slow usenet speeds at any time of the day.

Hi olisun,

I have just checked your connection and network segment. Everything appears to be OK at present and there do not appear to have been any network problems recently. Speedtests should always be run from a single, ethernet connected PC, with no devices connected wirelessly (modem mode). Concurrently downloading multiple large files from multiple servers and adding the throughput will usually give a more accurate indication of actual download speeds than speed testing sites, here's how to do that.

We have seen Kaspersky and Avast! interfering with speeds so, if you are using either, please disable it when speed testing. Please also check that the power supply is 12Vac, 1.5A. A CAT 6 ethernet cable is also recommended.

Kind Regards,

Re: Very slow usenet speeds at any time of the day.

strange how they dont even give you a proper answer on here.

you could do speed tests all day long and they would be different to the speeds you get on Usenet anyway.

when will VM stop giving standard answers and actually look at the question being asked in the first place.

Please advise whether you are still experiencing slow service on usenet.

Re: Very slow usenet speeds at any time of the day.

[ Edited ]

it's 22:08 and the **bleep**ty speeds are back again and I am currently getting 2.67MB...

Tried port 563 and it's down to 1.8x MB...

Tried 2 usenet providers and tehy are still the same...

Wait let me guess, the cables have been cut again...;-)

For once stop lying to your customers...
