I had a TiVo box installed last week, which I'm really enjoying so far. There is one problem with it though...
It has been making a loud hum/ buzz since installation which I don't think can be right. I've looked elsewhere and people have described it as "silent", also the other boxes I've had from Virgin Media (V+ and VHD) have both been silent. I can hear the noise above the TV, so not what could be described as "silent"!
Has anyone else experienced this? There are no notes about it anywhere, or instruction on the kind of space it needs (i.e. area required for it to not over-heat). It does have a small DVD player resting on it, but is in the same situation my V+ was, which I never had any problems with.
Anyone got any ideas of how I can solve this irritating problem without having to get an engineer out?
nothing should be sitting on top of it as you can quite clearly see the vents are on top. Also you could try making some little polystryrene feet to put under it as my v+ use to hum when it was in a wooden cabinet and use to hum until I did this.

As Champs has correctly advised nothing should be resting on top of the TiVo box because it will cause the box to overheat by blocking the vents.
Can you please remove the DVD player allow the TiVo box to cool and let us know if the box is still making a noise?

a slight hum is normal but it maybe the location of the box causing the sound to be amplified so I agree with above posts... give it space so the cooling fan can slow down and place it on a rubber matt or some rubber pads.
