Possibility of S2 receiving the update before S3 users, any truth in this?
When can I expect an update with Virgin for Jelly Bean?

The S3 handsets from Virgin will get the JB update as soon as Samsung release it for the non-branded/SIM free versions.
If Samsung follow the path that they did for the S2 ICS update, this will happen after all the network customised versions
So far there has been no official announcement about the S2, but the rumours are for sometime mid-November

Our handset testing team have confirmed that Samsung are due to release the software to us for approval next week.
It's then up to Samsung to decide on the release launch for unbranded handsets (which we use) - it's not something that's known at this stage.
There's a recent thread on this here.

Our handset testing team will always test the software, even when unbranded, to make sure it works on our network as it should do. It's then up to Samsung to release the software to all handsets when they're happy with it's release.

So, that explains why Samsung unbranded releases typically happen after branded releases then...
I guess Samsung have to wait for - all unbranded partners to report their findings and if any one partner reports an issue or takes their time testing - then, that holds it up for the rest.

If you're feeling brave it is very easy to update your phone with official firmware (just not official for the CSC code of the VM phones). Of course, there is a small risk of bricking the phone and it will invalidate the warranty.
