Samsung Galaxy Ace 'Gingerbread' update?

I noticed '3' among other networks have started rolling out the gingerbread update (for samsung galaxy ace) this week. Any ideas if Virgin plan to follow suit?

Re: Samsung Galaxy Ace 'Gingerbread' update?

Hopefully it's a question of 'when' and not 'if' (having just updated my Sony X10 on Vodafone, it's definitely worth the upgrade). I hoping, somewhat forlornly, that it might cure the random switching off problem that plagues the Ace.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Ace 'Gingerbread' update?

Normaly the random switching off problem is related to apps you may have downloaded.

Save your data and then do a factory reset (from the android start up not the phone) and try again

Re: Samsung Galaxy Ace 'Gingerbread' update?

All three Ace's I've now had have randomly turned off, even with nothing but factory installed apps.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Ace 'Gingerbread' update?

Spoke to VM today about my phone, they've no idea when the update is due, in fact they had no idea if it would happen at all and offered to swap my Ace with the HTC Wildfire S, not sure it's suitable so I need to go look at one.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Ace 'Gingerbread' update?

There isn't much difference between the two apart from the ace has a bigger screen with better display of colours, and a faster processor. It also has a bigger battery so should allow more use between charges. HTC's are notorious battery eaters. HTC's sense UI is considered far superior to Samsungs TouchWiz UI.

Anyway, you can have a look at a side by side comparison at the following link.

All the best.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Ace 'Gingerbread' update?

A couple for weeks ago I got an Ace and it came with Froyo. Last week I got 2 more Aces and they came with Gingerbread. Below is the build....

Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: S5830XWKP7
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-PERF-CL484646 ROOT@DELL154#1
Build: Gingerbread.XWKPU

But......there is a problem with Ginger bread on the Ace. SMS does not work with 3G enabled. See here http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-ace/406524-gingerbread-broke-sms.html

It may be the roll out of Gingerbread to existing users is being held back as a result of this issue.
