As do I. Currently on Virgin Mobile contract + iPhone 4S. My sim just worked. No problems so far.
Virgin should really think about getting the iPhone however I guess their customers are loyal seeing as were willing to go out, purchase an expensive sim free phone, mutilate our sim cards all just to stay with the company.

The plot thickens, went out this afternoon came home at 15:00 left phone in front room. Went to check if any text at 17:00 phone COMPLETELY DEAD. It had a 100% charge at 10:00 this morning and I backed it up. Nothing whatsoever will wake the phone up. Left it on charge, will have to see what it's like in the morning. Off to Nice on Saturday for a week so it looks like I'll be back to my old trusty Nokia E71.
I brought a new Iphone 4s about a week ago straight from apple sim free, I cut my virgin (pay monthly) sim using this youtube guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUpkX4P6FWA after some final filing. Avoiding the metal parts it slotted in. Although this guide above is not exact at all.
So i put the sim in, yahoo it worked. Within about 15 mins, i got a 'Sim Failiure' message and then, invalid sim in the top left of the phone, where the network provider is normally displayed.
Took it out, blew on it, it fitted back in fine. Same problem. I rang Virgin who were extremely unhelpful first time round, the second time i tried, the guy was great. I told him of the 'Invalid Sim' issue, and i suggested to him perhaps it was an issue with Virgin switching between to different providers (as someone suggested here) he sounded like he actually knew what he was talking about and assured me thats not the case.
He said if it was any kind of network switching issue, the phone would display a different message, or no network. Fair enough. He suggested a new sim be sent out, and instead of cutting it, he told me to buy a proper sim cutter online. So i did, a Noosy Lupo sim cutter off amazon. A ton of good reviews. Was about 4 quid, with £7 i payed on top to get it next day delivery (today)
So my cutter arrives, I cut the sim very very VERY carefully, i had been without a sim for two days, and remember i cut down my original sim, so i couldnt even put it in an old mobile! No phone, i couldnt wait over the weekend, effectively five days without my mobile. So i was very careful using the sim cutter. But to be honest the sim cutter itself was fairly easy to use, slip it in, press down hard like a staple and the cut is fairly clean. Now it was VERY close to the metal part but didnt cut it.
I put it in the phone, it was a snug fit, but it slotted into the tray, and it WORKED.................. for about 25 minutes, then... same as before. Sim Failure....then Invalid sim. Just to rule out the cutter being dodgy, despite its glowing reviews. I took a risk and cut an old sim that is still active on a 2nd phone but i don't use, and no one has the number for anymore. o2. It was a even CLOSER cut as the o2 metal/gold bit is a different larger shape, more square but again it avoided the metal parts. I put this in my iphone 4s about 3 hours ago...and no invalid sim notice. In short, its an issue with the Virgin network.
I will leave it over night but i think i can confirm it IS an issue with the Virgin Mobile sim card and nothing else. This o2 is still working fine with the cutters. The metal/gold part on the back is larger on the o2 sim if that means anything. But from where im looking it's 99.9% Virgin mobile network issues.
Right now im sad to say im leaving Virgin (im on a great deal with loads of internet time) but i want to use my iphone 4s and i can't with a Virgin sim. Until Virgin issue a Microsim and face the facts, there is an issue with their sims on the iphone4s, then i have no use for Virgin, again a shame, as i am on a great deal.
I have a tesco mobile, an o2 and an orange sim card pay as you go here. Im looking online tonight to find the best deals and taking my number over. Again a big shame, but i think i can confirm to all who read this until they sort it, that it's an issue with the Virgin network.
Now the guy who i spoke to at Virgin said to me in January they may do Micrsosims, but he also said that his workmate was using a Iphone4s with a virgin sim. Clearly a lie, or mistake. Iphone 4 maybe, but it wasn't a 4s, they don't work with the Virgin sim.
Any updates or changes i will let you all know. But my o2 sim is still in the 4s fine right next to me working.
I have had this problem since I received my new iphone4s. At first I thought it was all to do with Virgin, so I called them and got them to send out a new sim. It took a week for the new sim to arrive and I used a virgin PAYG sim during that week. The PAYG sim worked fine asf ar as no "invalid sim" message but wireless and 3g were poorer in perfomance and had to restart phone a couple of times.
The new replacement sim arrived I popped it in and was fine.. For 15 minutes then - "invalid sim". Got through to 2nd line virgin tech support but they ultimately said "no clue", I then saw this post on apple: from a guy with the same problem: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3390945?start=135&tstart=0 So I phoned applecare got an appointment at my local store today and had them check it out, they CONFIRMED it as a hardware fault (He said it should not continue to say "invalid sim" if the sim is taken with phone on). So he replaced it with a brand new one and i can confirm my phone feels much more responsive when on both 3g and wireless and finally no more "invalid sim" whoo hoo!!
It seems that in the UK this fault is picked up on the virgin network more than any other and mainly on contract sims. Why? I dont know. But everythings excellent now!
Wish i would have known!!! I've now moved over to Tesco unfortunately and it's worked fine since. When Virgin do dedicated microsims i may return, as of now im on a good tesco deal and wont be coming back to Virgin until they do dedicated microsims.
I tried an 02 sim in my phone for like a day, and had this tesco sim in my phone for two days both were cut down with the sim cutter. I've had no issues with them at all. So all virgin sim owners have to get their phones replaced? Not good. Never mind, mines working fine now so im good, just a shame the fuss i had to go through!
Virgin mobile sim will work fine in an iphone 4s, although the iphone I received initially (preorder) had the invalid sim fault, Apple changed it and the Apple guy said he hadn't had any others in with that fault. The Apple forum I posted above has the fault occuring on all networks inc, uding O2 and vodafone it just so happens virgin is more sensitive to this issue (maybe something to do with them being a legacy virtual Mobile Network) but ultimately you would be very unlucky to get this fault and its to do with the phone not the network.
I am on good virgin deal and have voice, texts, internet and voicemail all working perfectly.
(I do recommend a sim cutter rather than doing it yourself - they are less than £3 delivered on ebay so for me a no brainer and came with converter card to make the cut micro sim become a full size sim again which was good for me to test when I had problem.)
