Don't work for Virgin by the way . . . .

 

The blueyonder and virginmedia servers are BOTH working at the moment.

The blueyonder servers (on ports 25,110,465 and 995) will soon stop operating.

VM can detect what server you're connecting to when you logon and are sending emails to that primary email address to 'run their fix tool' or manually change your settings. So that you won't get disrupted. Login usernames remain the same. ( @blueyonder.co.uk)

Derek, you may well be right and it would explain these emails.... but it's not what they told us to do originally so lets hope they amend/send out an appropriate email before they pull the plug on the blueyonder servers.  Do we have a date for this, anyone know when plughole day is?

Derek that is not what the instructions Virgin are issuing say.

 

There is no mention in their instructions to change from pop3.blueyonder.co.uk to pop3.virginmedia.com (and likewise for the smtp)

 

There instructions are only to change from ports 25 and 110 to 465 and 995, with a few boxes to check

 

Where does it say you have to change from pop3.blueyonder to pop3.virginmedia.

 

Just need to check I have done this correctly

I wouldn't want to contradict VM's instructions . . . :-)   :-)   :-)

 

Just wait then . . .

and when it finally stops working, change your settings then.

 

I've had 10 blueyonder mailboxes on 2 separate b/band systems, connecting to

pop3.virginmedia.com:995 / smtp.virginmedia.com:465 for a week OK.

Maybe VM's online documentation hasn't caught up with the reality on the ground.

They may be working to a phased timeline and emailing users in groups.

Who knows.. .

 

But I think that's what's triggering the reminder emails to users already on SSL ports.

 

Maybe someone from VM could confirm this ?

COULD SOMEONE GIVE ME STEP BY STEP INSTUCTIONS HOW TO GET TO THE SETTINGS TO CHANGE THEM.I AM 63 YEARS OLD AND USUALLY RELY ON MY DAUGHTER TO DO THIS SORT OF THING.MY ADDRESS IS BLUEYONDER.CO.UK BUT I USE INCREDIMAIL

Derek I am not questioning your knowledge or logic, however if you look at the sticky on the front page "Manual E-Mail Settings" and drop down to the blueyonder one there is no mention of replacing pop3.blueyonder with pop3.virginmedia etc.

 

Have I misunderstood ?

 

Have Virgin Media got the instructions correct ?

I have a memory like a sieve but vaguely remember having a conversation  about this too with a VM 'expert' when they first sent out the messages and I am sure he said we didn't have to change the settings, but now I am no longer sure. And as I said it would be lovely if our fearless IPS provider would share with us....  Have a good evening anyway Smiley Happy

The problem is that I trust the information from Derek (and Eric on here) what concerns me is that the instructions stickied to the front page, and on Virgins website contradict what Derek is saying.

Has anybody had a successful update for the blueyonder service using Windows live mail ?  I spent 6 hours yesterday attempting to get some help, passing from pillar to post.  Looks like I'm going to have to follow the 'I'm leaving VM' line if I can't resolve it soon.   Any clues ?

Yes, it definitely works. However, the VM update tool will not update it for you.

 

Despite any posts above, you should be using the blueyonder.co.uk servers, not the virginmedia.com ones.

However, it is a bit difficult to get to grips with combining all the above help pages, so below are some images that try to do just that.

 

Are you trying to update an existing working WLM account, or do you want to add a new one? These images are for checking an existing one.
