Don't see what that thread has to do with my problem. my IP is from my service provider and even with My IP email send still doesn't work
SSL = none
Send test e-mail message: The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
Connections via the router, will use private IP address 192.nnn direct into the modem will give you a public IP so are you saying NAT is the problem. it will not be a problem with IP address ranges.
I also use MY PrivateIP and this is a VPN tunnel to UK maidenhead and a totally different IP and I still get the problem.
Virgin Media have a problem with their mail service and need to sort it out
When you use a router it gives your PC a private IP adddress 192.nnn, but the router gets a public IP address from the ISP.
When you connect your PC direct to the modem your PC gets a public IP address from he ISP.
Either way, it is only the public IP address that is at issue.
The handy thing is, changing from using a router to not using a router is a quick way of getting a different public IP address, since the ISP assigns (and remembers) public IP addresses to the connecting device MAC address - and your PCand router each have different MAC addresses. That way you can quickly see if the problem is resolved by a change of IP address, and in all the other similar cases reported that has indeed solved it.
Curious however that the poblem perists when you even when you use VPN and hence get a different IP address again - what is th efirst part of that IP address?
