Streaming video always buffering, online games unplayable. packet loss?

I'm in the BS1 area and for the last 3 days or so i've been having serious issues with the internet. The speed is fine and I can load web pages pretty well (sometimes better than others) and youtube works. However, when i try and stream video from somewhere like tvcatchup it buffers every 30 seconds or so. I can't play online games because it always loses connection too.

 

On a related note our tv service is also 'buffering' since it freezes every 30 seconds too. strange.

 

I don't know what the cause of this is but its getting to me now.

ALSO...

 

my cable modem log: A three minute period where it keeps failing to lock onto the downstream signal? Something must be going on here thats causing the intermittent problems.

BUMP

 

its still going on...speeds seem to show up alright and pings show up alright but there are a lot of timeouts etc...tv is affected too

Hello neonraver,

 

Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. Your upstream power is currently at 31.5 dBmV and this is the likely cause of the problems you are reporting. As suck, we will need to arrange a technician visit to rectify this. Our tech timeslots are as follows:

 

Monday to Friday: 8am - 12noon, 12noon - 4pm, 4pm - 7pm
Saturday: 8am - 12noon, 12noon - 4pm

 

Please advise which of the above timeslots is most convenient and we will get this booked in for you.

Thank you! I called up the helpline TWICE and they said they couldnt find a fault so thank you so much for getting back to me.

 

If I could get 4pm - 7pm today (wednesday) that would be great. If not, 8am - 12noon tomorrow (thursday).
