unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

I use the inbuilt email app on my samsung note pro. I can receive emails without apparent issue.

Now, however, I have been trying to send a mail and it keeps failing. I have tried most of the fixes (that I can find on here) and confirmed the settings multiple times.

I logged onto my virgin webmail, after resetting its password, and tried to send a mail to my blueyonder address and that also fails.

It says an authorisation issue in the pop up in web mail

Confused now. The web mail has just this minute worked.

This is the error message popup I get using the webmail page with the blueyonder account details, that can receive mails, to send a mail

ErrorError

Wrong or missing login data to access e-mail transport server smtp.blueyonder.co.uk. Please check associated account's settings/credentials

Help!!!

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

Hi all

We appear to have been repaired. There is now a need to authenticate to log on.

Thanks to all who helped get this back up and running correctly.

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

Ok an update.

I have done some digging in the web mail page. In setting up my blueyonder.co.uk address as a secondary account. I get all the folders I have on my note pro and mails I have received for that account.

But the outgoing smtp server keeps getting this error

Could not connect to transport server "smtp.blueyonder.co.uk" for login x.xxxxxxxxx@blueyonder.co.uk. Please review your settings.

The settings are the same for send and receive.

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

In one of the many posts on dimilar isdues here some suggested turning send authentication off. This works for my android device connected via VM wifi.

Doing the same in the webmail fails.

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

Do you have a PC you can test with?  Would you be willing to download Thunderbird and try setting up a send with mail logging to see what error code the actual smtp server is returning?

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

Hi

I ran the script from the first stickied post and got this as the response

0[3311140]: SMTP Response: 525 Authentication Denied (VM304)

This was with Thunderbird. The same problem occurs on my tablet and webmail.

@Jen_A

Could you take a look into this?

@theboxers Just to confirm.  If I am reading the thread correctly, you can receive fine on all devices - just not send?

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

I can receive fine on all devices and send from my tablet when the authentication is off.

With authentication on, tablet, thunderbird and webmail all fail. With authentication off, Webmail will not allow me to setup an outgoing smtp because it can't authenticate and thunderbird times out.

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

Hi

Many thanks for confirming this.  While I thought it might be the case, I prefer not to simply assume things.

Virgin have a number of different servers relating to e-mail.  The outgoing ones in some cases aren't matching the incoming ones.  While we've seen apparently legitimate cases of the VM304 error on the forums, we've also seen at least two other cases such as yours.  It's not a password error.

SMTP error 525 is Authentication denied with VM304 giving the reason.  If you are able to receive mails, then you definitely should not be getting this specific error.

I've added this thread to a list of threads we're monitoring behind the scenes (while Superusers don't work for VM we do work with them to highlight possible issues) and also flagged the thread itself for the Forum Teams attention.

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

Thank for your help. I hope we get this sorted fairly quickly. This is the first issue I've had in nearly 20 years on this mail server.

Re: unable to sent email on blueyonder.co.uk address.

I've asked the mods to unmark the answer as helpful.. You can mark it when the issue is resolved.  But for now the problem still exists.  Just so you are aware

Helpful answer is the equivalent to marking a post as solving your problem.
The Kudos button can be used just to give thanks to useful posts.
