Re: sending emails from phone not working

Hi franktr,

Apologies for your email issues, I'll do my best to help.

Just so that I understand your situation correctly I have a few questions:

  • When you tried to send mail via your mobile was any error message returned?
  • Is Outlook the mail app you are using on your mobile?
  • Do you have any other mail clients or mail apps set up on other devices?
  • Is your mail set up as POP or IMAP?

Oh and I should also point out that we do have an issue with webmail access at the moment though this should not be affecting apps and clients.

Many thanks,

Jen

Re: sending emails from phone not working

hi Jen how nice to hear from you.

your questions in quick:

  • When you tried to send mail via your mobile was any error message returned?
  • sending via mobile, no error message, at first it says it has not been sent. and stays in the outbox, or disappears. It is likely to disappear if i try to resend the message
  • Is Outlook the mail app you are using on your mobile?
  • using mail setup, guess this is webmail app
  • Do you have any other mail clients or mail apps set up on other devices?
  • yes, gmail, which is poor and one other business mail, which is on the same app as my blueyonder mail
  • Is your mail set up as POP or IMAP?
  • think it is IMAP

We do have poor internet here and hope this will change. mail with weblink or larger files struggle

speak soon

Frank

Re: sending emails from phone not working

hi

it sounds like the smtp settings are not matching the virginmedia records.  Within your device, you should be able to go to settings, accounts, mail account, click on the advanced option if your using an android device, you should see imap.blueyonder.co.uk, username and password etc

There should be an option for smtp server settings, you should have port number 465, use ssl, ensure you have the full username in (full email address and retype your password)

This issue can be very frustrating as it only takes the device to complete an update and settings mismatch.

Hope this helps

Goodluck

Re: sending emails from phone not working

Hi Greeniegirl thank you for your helpful email. it has been mad here. I have been working a lot from my pc, where i do not have the same issue. the mails tend to be sent at a later time, depending on the server i use. but also that is sporadic. All the setting have been and are as you asked for. wonder what other we can do. thanks Franktr

Re: sending emails from phone not working

Morning

Since you have checked all the settings on the mobile device, what I do next when this happens is to remove the account. Add it again, once it is added, go back into the smtp settings, check all those settings once more, if there is multiple servers listed on the outgoing server you will be able to select the other servers and remove these (just to avoid conflict) then on the one server you will use retype your password, save settings and see if you can send an email from yourself to yourself.  Would you also mind posting to me what the error message comes up with once you do this? that is if it doesn't work.

Let me know how you get on please

Re: sending emails from phone not working

Hi Greeniegirl

Thank you for your mail
The problem is mostly coming up when i reply to a mail or i have a dropbox link, document attachment
I do get a server error message.

Like you advised i dis and reconnected the mail, but see no improvement.
Any other suggestion or app i should consider?

Re: sending emails from phone not working

There's a lot of information in your replies that don't seem to make sense.  And one important question that doesn't appear to have been asked.

What type of phone is it?

Apple, Android or Windows Phone.

Your answer here doesn't seem to make sense.

  • Is Outlook the mail app you are using on your mobile?
  • using mail setup, guess this is webmail app

Webmail is accessing the email via a web browser, so there is nothing to set up.  So do you mean you are using the built-in mail program on your phone?

If so answering my first question will go a long way to help us to help you.

Tim

Re: sending emails from phone not working

Do you mean this App here (circled in red)?

androidscreen.JPG

If so that's not webmail that's the androids built in mail client.
