iPhone 6+ Apple iOS email not working

Hi
My email stopped working for my mail user
The wife's email works fine on my iPhone.
If I use a browser for the main user it's okay.
I work abroad and like the emails on my Apple client
I do t want to keep having to use webmail.
I've had this problem around 5 times over the previous 5 years.
Usually delete the main user then add "other"
Fill in username password
Imap4.blueyonder.co.uk
Port 143
SMTP port 25
And bingo it's back working.
Done it yesterday and still not working.
Says user name or password wrong
Even though used the correct password
Many many times.
If I can type the correct password to get into webmail then i can type the right password whilst setting up the email client for the 100th time
What is going on ?
Just tried setting up the 4 and 5th user on my email setting.
Tiredeyes69
And another with those ports and the same password.
Works okay on my iPhone

So it's absolutely a problem with main user

Haha, put a tick in email mevwhen some one replies ๐Ÿ˜†

Re: How to report a fault to virgin ?

I'm confused.
Do I setup my email as connecting to virgin media.com or blue yonder.co.uk ?
My email domain for all 5 emails for my family is blueyonder.co.uk
I can't find any information on virgin ๐Ÿ˜• Websites.
Just that I need to change to smtp.virginmedia.com
&
IMAP.virginmedia.com

But my email is not connecting ๐Ÿ˜‘
Can anybody help ?

Re: How to report a fault to virgin ?

[ Edited ]

I wasn't going to reply to this thread but it seems you genuinely need some help. First of all you have done yourself no good at all by posting about the same issue in different threads. I've merged the relevant threads and posts because that means all the facts are in one place and so will the replies be.

Apple devices are problematic. Nothing to do with VM. They seem to have a mind of their own and continually default to inappropriate settings for no apparent reason, or because updates to the OS from Apple cause this (we have seen evidence of this).

Your port settings are absolutely the wrong ones. You are using port 25 for the SMTP servers which means that you will be sending unauthenticated. Do this from outside the UK and/or from a non VM IP address and the chances are that it will all fail. VM have strict e-mail client rules in place to prevent injection of spam into their system. Equally using e-mail clients abroad (you don't say where you are) is subject to strict rolling hourly and twenty-four hour sending limits.; again to reduce the scope for spammers to exploit.  The correct port setting for SMTP is 465 with password on. That will authenticate your sends so VM knows they are coming from you.

Your incoming settings on port 143 are also wrong. The settings are 995 for POP and 993 for IMAP. With authentication on it ensures the integrity of receiving mail.

You will need to start afresh. The settings for VM e-mail clients are easily available on the VM help and support pages, on this Forum. There is also considerable guidance on this Forum to help you set up Apple devices. You need to read and follow this guidance which I have linked below.

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Email-settings-change/td-p/3369438  (unified client mail settings for all VM domains)

https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/20030...   (same stuff repeated in a more accessible format)

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Ipad-Iphone-SMTP-why-deleting-and-recreating-an-account-DO...

how to set up apple devices for e-mail - and what does and can go wrong and how to stop that

There are some other issues current with VM's mail system which might apply. I have to ask - do you have  a paid broadband account with VM back home?

If you want to contact VM from abroad you have a simple choice - use web chat, see the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of any VM web page. It has been reported that you can use the UK number in international format - +44 345 454 1111, but I don't know if it will work.

Re: How to report a fault to virgin ?

To correct Howard slightly

Using ports 25 and 143 mean that you are sending and receiving without encryption.

This is bad for two reasons.

1. Anyone snooping on your network connection can see your email address AND password as they are sent in clear text.
2. Your emails and their contents are also visible to snoopers as these are also sent in clear text.

As you appear to be using IMAP these are the recommended settings.

Inbound

Server - imap.virginmedia.com
Port     - 993
SSL     - On (slider should be green)
Authentication type - Password
Username - Your FULL email address.
Password

Note: to set the ports and SSL encryption type scroll down and tap Advanced at the bottom of the Inbound settings.

Outbound

Server - smtp.virginmedia.com
Port     - 465
SSL     - On (slider should be green)
Authentication type - Password
Username - Your FULL email address
Password

Tim

I accept the correction willingly. Just don't use these ports.

Re: How to report a fault to virgin ?

I'm abroad with work in Vienna then onto Munich. Hopefully home Friday.
Used virgin since I trailed the 1/2 meg broadband 17 years ago.
I understand ports, routing and security.
The website setup of email is easy.
The problem is my understanding of how on this "help" community is the wording of a sticky saying I need to change my iOS settings of my imap & smtp to virginmedia.
Nowhere does it tell me about my Blueyonder settings.
Or just spell it out, if your using BY, you need to change your imap & smtp to virginmedia instead of BY
Just saying if you are on the 3 domains of BY / VM / NTL
Then you need to change your settings of imap and smtp. But is this if I have a Blueyonder account for 17 years ?

Why does my wife's email work on my iPhone. ???
It sends and receives just fine.
Using BY imap4 and smtp.
So why does hers work and not mine?
I don't send sensitive information so couldn't give a rats chuff how it gets put in between the headers if I'm honest.
If someone really wants to see something I send on email, then let them Smiley Happy
So onto my problem with VM email system
When they let go of gmail servers it went to sh 1t
Now I got flooded with enough spam to get me through ww3 when it's due.
So why did just my email stop working on my iPhone, but the wife's didn't ?
I'm guessing it's to do with the fact that my email address
Is the main user.
The one I use to log on to the whole package
Tv / broadband / landline etc.
I might be guessing it's due to the fact I've upgraded my tv package around 3weeks ago.
I also don't understand why we have floods of people writing in here that their email is up the Swanny when someone is blaming Apple's iOS :?

Danke

Re: How to report a fault to virgin ?

I am simply not going to add to this thread anymore - other than to say that we have shown you the way forward. Now it is up to you. And if you had read the sticky about settings changes properly you would have seen that it applies to all the VM domains, including blueyonder and that existing settings would work for sometime yet. Your settings are plain wrong and deprecated.

Re: How to report a fault to virgin ?

I said I wouldn't add to this thread. But you have challenged me to "figure it out". The answer is easy. The web mail system is producing this error. It is nothing to do with using an e-mail client. It arises because the VM web mail system is dysfunctional. The Superusers have been pressing VM very strongly behind the scenes to get something done to sort it. VM say they are working on it. We wish them well but we also wish they were speedier. The situation is unsatisfactory in the extreme. See I figured it out.

TT?  Are you still Virgin Media customers or were you Migrated to TalkTalk?
