After years of reliable working, I am unable to retrieve messages via Outlook or on my iPad.If I log into Virgin webmail all is well, as is the Outlook app on iPad. The message is 'server is not responding' OR request for password.

I see from from the 'Service Status' page that this seems to be a network problem and an engineer is 'on their way'. I am assuming this is the explanation...
