Spam content found blocking message

Hi, just joined the forum to try and get this issue resolved.

If I send and email to myself or cc myself on an email I get the spam content found bounce back message (its been happening since the 6/11). All other email comes in normally. Had 3 hours on the phone with the Virgin folk last Friday but still have the problem. Have spent all day uninstalling and re-installing live mail and trying other stuff but no change. Can someone point me in the right direction???

I always receive something similar to what is below.:

"I am sorry to have to inform you that your message, "test with 2012", could not be delivered to r.********@blueyonder.co.uk.

The remote mail system said;
 554:5.2.0 8F971u00b1eNB4o01F97oE Spam content found

The original message is attached."

Cheers, Rob

Re: Spam content found blocking message

Thank you for starting your own thread. That's the way to do it to ensure your issue doesn't get overlooked. This needs the attention of the Forum Team so wait here patiently and don't post again or you will go to the back of the queue. The Team are taking up to a week to get to posts like this; but may be quicker.

Stop fiddling with your computer. This is a VM issue. Only they can solve it.

I have done a little prodding behind the scenes for you.

Can you post the full message? (leave out the first part of any email address but post the bit's after the @ sign).

Hi, this is the body text of the last message I received from the server "mailer-daemon@virginmedia.com" (trust this is what you are after?)

This is the mail system at host know-smtprelay-11-imp.

I am sorry to have to inform you that your message, "??", could not be delivered to *********@blueyonder.co.uk.

Re: Spam content found blocking message

Did it mention an IP address - It'll be the mail servers and not your home IP.  I'm guessing it'll start 81.x.x.x

Re: Spam content found blocking message

Hi,

No, there is no IP address embedded in any of the messages from the server.

Cheers,

Rob.

Re: Spam content found blocking message

If you have a look at the email headers it'll have the information that we need.

If you right click the mail and then select Properties and select the details Tab to view the headers.

You should see one of two lines similar to the following

Received: from know-smtprelay-omc-2.server.virginmedia.net ([80.0.253.66])
by mx8.mnd.ukmail.iss.as9143.net with bizsmtp

or

X-Originating-IP: [94.173.xx.xx]

Note the above lines are from an email I sent to myself.  However in the Bounce message the X-Originating-IP should be the same as the mail server IP.

Re: Spam content found blocking message

This is what I expected to see based on others who are having the same problem.

Received: from know-smtprelay-omd-11.server.virginmedia.net ([81.104.62.43])
by mx3.tb.ukmail.iss.as9143.net with bizsmtp

Now the thing is Virgin only send mail out through that set of servers when they think that the mail is coming from a source that might be sending spam.

However they then take the reputation of those servers into account.

So now we need to find out why your outgoing mail is using those servers.  This is the one time I recommend checking your own sending IP to see if it is on certain blacklists.

Were the mails sent from you home network or from another network, e.g. mobile, wifi hotspot etc.

Have a read of my post here:

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Ravenstar-s-Email-FAQ-s/m-p/2420093/highlight/true#M129651

Follow the advice further down about checking your IP.

Also what current outgoing settings are you using?

Re: Spam content found blocking message

Hi, The email is going through my home network. If I log on to my email via the Virgin website and send a mail from there all is OK.

I've checked the IP addresses of the devices currently online through my router on the spamhaus checker and non of them indicate that they are on a blacklist (sbl.pbl or xbl).

My outgoing mail is via smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

Cheers, Rob
