Re: Spam Filtering

[ Edited ]

You should be able to train the spam filter by using the Report Spam or Not Spam buttons as appropriate.

You could add your own additional filters to send things to spam - see this post: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Spam-Filters-that-will-delete-most-spam-in-Webmail/m-p/121...

You could also create a label of your own (e.g. "Definitely Spam") and create filters to attach the label to stuff you are receiving too often. That would show in the list of emails in your spam folder so you could more easily spot the odd items that are not spam.

Re: Spam Filtering

I have followed Eric's instructions and they work brilliantly.  There is only one snag - I am getting exponentially increasing amounts of spam.  While my e-mail client is doing a good job of taking these to Junk, it is a drag waiting for 110 e-mails to download only to find 5 genuine ones in my inbox.  I think that the problem is that, because these are no longer being picked up by and alerting NTL's/Google's spam filter, as the spammers use new and different e-mails, they are getting more and more through.

Any ideas from the experts?

Re: Spam Filtering

Hello admiral,

I'm assuming that you've set up a Webmail filter which bypasses Google's inbuilt Spam filter. If you're now receiving too much Spam into your mail client then the only advice I can provide is to delete the custom filter you have set up and allow the Google filter to manage your Spam emails.

Re: Spam Filtering

Three steps backward:

In three separate ways Virgin/Google email is worse than its predecessor.  I can't think of any way in which it is an improvement.

1. Spam filtering.

I found Eric_T's solution to bypassing the Google Spam Filter for myself, after a good deal of effort.  But is there no better solution?

The old email system marked and delivered spam.  This was simple and effective, because the Mac Mail filter and the Virgin filter had different blindspots.  I could put the spam identified by Virgin but not Mac Mail into a separate folder, where it was easy to see any rare legit emails and correct the Virgin filter using webmail.

From time to time I get told how much Virgin Media value customer input.  Can we PLEASE PLEASE get back to mark and deliver spam?
