I have a blueyonder.co.uk email, I have enabled IMAP in webmail.

Settings for IMAP, blueyonder.co.uk, Thunderbird 15.01

Hi.

I have setup Thunderbird 15.01 using these settings, but it can't connect with encryption, it will only connect in the clear on ports 143 and 25.

I have worked in IT for 20 years and know that there is nothing running on my system that would block it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

DC.

Re: Settings for IMAP, blueyonder.co.uk, Thunderbird 15.01

OK i have it sending with encryption, what has changed is on virgin's end, you just use the first part of your email address, so instead of :

john@blueyonder.co.uk

just use :

john

Now i'm working on the receiving.

Re: Settings for IMAP, blueyonder.co.uk, Thunderbird 15.01

OK, here's what i had to do to get it working, let's use an email address of john@blueyonder.co.uk.

When you have installed Thunderbird and it prompts you to set up an existing email account, fill in all the fields but use the unencrypted ports, so my settings were :

Incoming server : imap4.blueyonder.co.uk

Incoming port : 143

Username : john

Connection security : None

Authentication method : Normal password

Outgoing server : smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

Outgoing port : 25

Username : john

Connection security : None

Authentication method : Normal password

Thunderbird then does it's probing succesfully, you click on done and we're in.

But now we have to change the settings to be encrypted.

For each email account you have, right-click on it (john@blueyonder.co.uk) and choose Settings.

Then go to Server Settings.

For the incoming server change the port to 993 and the connection security to SSL/TLS and the authentication method to normal password.

For the outgoing server, click on outgoing server then highlight it and choose edit.

Change the port to 465, the connection security to SSL/TLS and autthentication method to normal password.

For some reason, using the initial prompt of Thunderbird to setup an existing email account that is encrypted doesn't work, you have to set it up as unencrypted then change the port numbers etc ...

I still can't get it to send an encrypted password !

If anyone can help with this then please do :smileyhappy:

All the best,

DC.
