SPAM filters not working. 3 Dec 16

Is anyone else getting the same emails recurring after marking them as spam and deleting them?

Its got worse over the last wekk.

Yes; see similar posts made over the past weeks.

BTW, the SPAM filters are working but are unable to detect the latests flare-up nor it seems act on user identified SPAM. A far cry from Virgin Media's announcement email “Welcome to your new Virgin Media Mail” where they wrote:

Yes, a number of others have been reporting problems with large quantities of spam being delivered to their inboxes since around the middle of November.  The reports resemble those which resulted in this October 2015 article,

What are some of the subject lines of the messages you have been receiving? 

Have you had any problems with your address being spoofed or received letters from Virgin Media that your account has been locked?  There seems to be some overlap between people who are now receiving large quantities of spam in their inboxes and people who've had those problems in the past year.

Just the bog standard credit card, erectile, medical etc etc.

Never been spoofed, as far as I know, nor had my account locked

Check the email source to confirm the filter conditions should have triggered the action(s) or post further details in a new post.

Filter conditions are using the originating ip address found in the email headers.

Thing is, I even created a really basic test rule: move anything with words in subject / to a different folder, and it did nothing. the emails still just sat in the inbox rather than moving to te folder i specified.

I'm just going to put it down to this email app being rubbish. State of the art it is NOT.

VM webmail filters do not work on mail already in the inbox. They only filter new mail as it arrives that meet the criteria.
