SORBS blacklisted IP

My VM IP **.***.***.*** is blacklisted by SORBS.

Header information: http://mxtoolbox.com/Public/Tools/EmailHeaders.aspx?huid=5e380451-8ce6-48ff-b610-a47515876221

I have contacted SORBS and get the following message:

$Id: Act.pm,v 1.16 2006/11/27 03:36:09 lem Exp $

I'm a robot writing you on behalf of the SORBS' admins. The reason
you're getting this automated response, is our desire to provide you
with consistent and fast responses. I'm prepared to correctly analyze
most of the cases appearing in the DUHL queue.

You might want to keep your responses as short as possible (and to
trim my own responses) to help humans better serve you should the need
arise.

I've analyzed the following IP space, based on the text of your
request:

**.***.***.***

Not all the IP space you requested can be delisted at this
time. Please review carefully our FAQ, located at the following URI

http://www.sorbs.net/faq/dul.shtml

For efficiency, I review segments of IP space that may be larger than
what you requested, although I will delist your IP space once it is
eligible, regardless of its surroundings. In this case, I found the
following IP space, not eligible for delisting:

**.***.***.***

Please review our FAQ very carefully for actions you might need to
take. You may want to review your rDNS information for these IP
ranges. When checking the rDNS information, please don't forget to
consider the TTL. It must be 43200 seconds or longer.

I'm now marking this request as 'answered' as I think there's nothing
more for me to do. If you feel otherwise, please reply to this message
to re-open your ticket. In particular, if you change your rDNS
information.

Best regards.

Any ideas how I can solve this issue?

Re: SORBS blacklisted IP

Let me start by stating this fact

Being on the DUHL is NORMAL, it is also possible that your IP may be on the Spamhaus PBL as well.

Why?

The DUHL and PBL DON'T list spammers.  They list IP addresses that shouldn't be running mail servers.  Your IP is on this list because it is not fixed, it is allocated via DHCP.  If Spamhaus and SORBS had their way ALL residential IP's would be on these lists.

If you are using a normal Email client to connect to a mail providers smtp relays, then being on these lists is not an issue.

See my post here for more information on block lists.

So the next question is what's prompted you to check?

Re: SORBS blacklisted IP

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

     xxx

Technical details of permanent failure:=20
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for=
the recipient domain xxx by mail.xxx.xxx. [193.35.=
62.10].

The error that the other server returned was:
550 5.7.1 IP address is listed by Sorbs

From this I deduce the following

1. You're sending over Google - (free Gmail or Google Apps?)
2. That the Google server IP is blacklisted on SORBS rather than your home IP.  So mail.xxxxx.ir is rejecting the connection from Google

As a general rule the server that tries to deliver the message is the one that sends the NDR so if you check the originating IP on the Non delivery report you can find which Google server is blacklisted.

From then your course of action depends on whether you have a free Google account or a paid for Google Apps account

1. If it's a consumer account the only thing to do is complain on the Google Forums.
2. If it's a paid account you can give them a call remember to get a support pin number

https://support.google.com/a/table/3247295?hl=en

Although it's possible that they may well resolve the listing themselves.  Don't let them talk you in to thinking it's your IP that's at issue - it's definitely not.

Re: SORBS blacklisted IP

Thank you for your time to revert

It's Google Aps and I've spent a long time with them trying to resolve it and the conclusion was that it was my VM IP not theirs.

Who's conclusion?  Google's or yours?

I've done a lot of research into how email blacklisting works when Virgin was trying to pull this guff on their own users.  Mail exchangers like the mail.xxxx.ir will only reject mail based on the IP that's directly talking to them, NOT the originating IP of the email.  Can you go into the headers of the bounce message and find the IP it cam from and plug that into MXtollbox?
