Possible solution to 525 304 SMTP authentication denied

Hi,

I have been having this problem for a week or so now and have discovered that if I switch off/disable the Require Authentication setting in SMTP/Outgoing email settings I can send emails again from my email client.

Hope this helps some of you and I hope it sheds some light on the subject for VMs Engineers.

Only works when sending over virgin media broadband connection though. Which is fine for my desktop PC but not for my mobile devices.

Re: Possible solution to 525 304 SMTP authentication denied

Can you receive mails on that Virgin address?

525 VM304 indicates that there is an issue where the account is shown on one of Virgin's systems as being closed.  In some cases this appears to be because the users only use the account for authenticating third party sends and have never checked their inbox.  Virgin's policy is that mailboxes that are not checked for 90 days are disabled.  After another 60 days, if the user hasn't contacted Virgin to re-enable the mailbox in question it is then disabled.

Other cases though appear to be that the SMTP server access is terminated in error even though the account is still live.  The Forum Team will investigate this for you, and if necessary escalate this on to the email team.

I am receiving mail on the account. I check my emails regularly in Outlook over pop3 and on my phone over IMAP.

Could @Nicola_C or @Jen_A take a look at this please?

Re: Possible solution to 525 304 SMTP authentication denied

Hi kujoswrath,

Thanks for letting us know. Disabling the authentication is something a few others have used as a workaround but it's likely that the aggregate records need updating from our side to resolve the VM304 error.
Please let me know which email address is affected by responding to my PM (purple envelope icon, top right of page) and I'll bat this over to the I.T. team for resolution.

Re: Possible solution to 525 304 SMTP authentication denied

Hi kujoswrath,

Yes, that email address is the failing the SMTP check from here. I've escalated this I.T. for you, fault ref: P007586139, and I'll be in touch as soon as I hear back from them (typically 3-5 days).

That should resolve the authentication problem you're having but we'll see what happens and take things from there.

Bye for now Smiley Happy

Re: Possible solution to 525 304 SMTP authentication denied

Hi kujoswrath,

I.T. have updated the aggregate records and your email address is no longer displaying the SMTP-check fail from here.
The VM304 error should no longer be evident for you, would you confirm please?

Thanks,

Jen
