Re: Outgoing Mail Server for Blueyonder problems on Mac

I've been having this same problem for the last week with smtp.blueyonder.co.uk, sometimes it works sometimes not. I'm on a Mac and have tried with both Mac Mail and Entourage.

Tried calling Virgin but they keep me waiting longer than thye batteries on my phone can last!

Re: Outgoing Mail Server for Blueyonder problems on Mac

Hi gfinlay,

Try this Link.

Just in case, I shall type the settings out for you and others to see:

Incoming server:

  • pop3.virginmedia.com
  • SSL = yes
  • incoming port number = 995
  • account/user name = full email address i.e. my.email@virginmedia.com, my.email@blueyonder.co.uk, my.email@ntlworld.com

Outgoing server settings:

  • smtp.virginmedia.com
  • SSL = yes
  • outgoing port number - 465

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Jen_A

Re: Outgoing Mail Server for Blueyonder problems on Mac

Hi rm48il,

Try the settings shown in this link.

If you are still having problems, you might want to call Virgin Media on 151 (from a Virgin landline) or 0845 454 1111 (from any other phone) so that one of our agent's can talk you through the settings.

If you don't object, they could remotely access your computer to make the changes on your behalf, this way they may see what is causing the problem.

Let us know if this helps.

Kind Regards,

Jen_A

For all users who have posted on this thread,

We apologise for the issues some of you are having with the email server settings.

Virgin Media changed the server settings a year or so ago. Up until recently the older settings did still work.

Configuring with the new settings should resolve any problems you are having.

Please click the link here. Although this states that it applies to emails ending in virginmedia.com, please use regardless of what email domain you have, whether it be @ntlworld.com, @blueyonder.co.uk, @virginmedia.com or @virgin.net.

If all the settings are correct, you should be able to send/receive mail without any further issues.

Kind Regards,

Jen_A

Re: Outgoing Mail Server for Blueyonder problems on Mac

Hey Jen,

My sending problem from my mackbook pro & iPhones is intermittent. The weekend was bad, now a little better, but not stable.

On Thursday & Friday I spoke with VM and they tried 'remote access' with no luck. Eventually I was informed that there 'was & is' an issue with the Blueyonder server and it was being looked into. I was told I'd receive email keeping me updated, but haven't heard anything as yet.

Here are my original settings - all other suggestions have not worked for me.

I can't get this to work. On my Mac if I just change the outgoing to smtp.virginmedia.com it just shows as offline so nothing scan send.
If I change the incoming server to virgin as well, all my Blueyonder emails from the past (about 2000) are no longer visible, which is no use to me.
What am I doing wrong?

Check you username & password.

Also have you changed it in the - edit smtp server list?

Go to

mail - preferences - accounts - select your account & where it says 'Outgoing mail Server (SMTP)' click on the name & from the list at the bottom select 'edit smtp server list'.

From that change the server name to smtp.virginmedia.com.

If all other settings are correct it should work.

If not check all other settings.

Try out the settings above from my last post (above). It's has been the only setting that works for me - keep in mind this problem is intermittent.

The only thing you need to change is the server name from smtp.blueyonder.co.uk to smtp.virginmedia.com

From your post - the third pic down - change only server name.

This has resolved it for me .

No problems at all now not even intermittent.

Good Luck.

Secure ssl would need to be ticked as well to make these settings work. Also the user name would need to include the @blueyonder.co.uk bit.
