Notification of a new email

I am new to VM emailing, I have been using hotmail for quite some while, I'm not up on pc knowledge, can someone please advise me as to how I can get to know when there is a new email to my pc without keep logging into check if there is a new email. A sound warning or something on screen of notification that I have a new message. Would appreciate any reply please. Thank you.

Do you have outlook installed?

I have the same problem but I use Firefox which does not have the facility to allow new email notification. However i believe it will work if you use Internet Explorer or Outlook.
