New ntlworld.com email settings.

Can someone please give detailed step by step guide to change the email settings on a pc/laptop while leaving email address as xxxxxx@ntlworld.com for those laymen like me who have used ntlworld.com for about 18 years without problems until recently, but have no idea how to make the advised changes, and in my case, where to even find the items to be changed?

Re: New ntlworld.com email settings.

If you are unsure how to implement the recommended settings, i suggest you wait awhile.

The old settings won't stop working for some time yet and no doubt in the coming weeks help guides will appear on how to change the settings on the most popular email apps.

Re: New ntlworld.com email settings.

It helps to know what Email program you are using.

I've just written a post demonstrating how to change the settings on Outlook 2016 here:

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Email-Settings-changes-Not-helpful-Locked-out-of-ntlworld...

Note that while my account is blueyonder.co.uk, the same steps will apply to all three legacy domains.
virgin.net
ntlworld.com
blueyonder.co.uk

If you need a guide for a specific client let me know which.  If I can install it (or already have it installed), I'll write a clear explanation for that client.

HTH

Tim

Re: New ntlworld.com email settings.

Hi Tim

My apologies. My email client is Virgin Media mail. I thought I had made that clear by including xxxx ntlworld.com  in my question. I don't want to leave it as it is because I'm finding it is getting more and more difficult to even open the Virgin email login page without refreshing numerous times, and then, when finally able enter user name and password, finding that clicking on login also fails numerous times, often resulting in me giving up until later due to time constraints. I'm not the only one with this problem. There are similar reports all over the internet. Virgin must know about it. It started weeks ago after the last lot of changes they made, and its getting worse.

Its not that I am unable to follow instructions, but simply that I can't change settings because I don't know where to find them in the first place. That is why I'm hoping some kind person might be able to post details leading to a simple solution.

Thanks

John

Re: New ntlworld.com email settings.

Tim

Hi again.

After reading comments from others elsewhere in on the forum, I realise I should have mentioned browser is Internet Explorer 11, and I access ntlworld.com via Virgin webmail.

Re: New ntlworld.com email settings.

The announcement makes it clear that if you only access email via Webmail then you do not need to change or do anything. The settings changes relate solely to third party email clients like Outlook, Windows Live Mail etc.

The problems you currently have accessing Webmail are unrelated.

Re: New ntlworld.com email settings.

As you are only using VM webmail to access your email you do not have to change any settings. This is made clear in the first bullet point of the announcement.

Re: New ntlworld.com email settings.

Then you are using Web Mail - in which case there are no changes required, as is clearly stated in the sticky you mentioned.

By email client, we mean specialist stand-alone mail programs e.g.

Microsoft Outlook
Windows Live Mail (which I would no longer recommend to anyone).
Mozilla Thunderbird.

To name three well-known examples. (there are many more out there).

Webmail is very flaky at the moment, and while Virgin Media are looking into this, they have yet to find a definite cause Smiley Sad.
